For just over three years, Baltimore Ravens placekicker Justin Tucker has reigned supreme as the NFL’s field-goal king.

How far out was Tucker’s record-breaking field goal?

Tucker, a 13-year league veteran and a seven-time Pro Bowler, kicked the longest successful field goal in NFL history on September 26, 2021, hitting his target with a stunning, game-winning effort from 66 yards out.

In the final moments of the Ravens' Week 3 matchup with the Lions in 2021, Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson threw a 36-yard pass to Sammy Watkins, taking the Ravens across midfield. At the 48-yard line, with only a few seconds left, Tucker and his right foot proceeded to make history.

With a powerful kick, Tucker earned the Ravens a 19-17 win and engraved his name in the NFL record books.

Whose field-goal record did Tucker beat?

Prior to Tucker’s historic kick, it was Matt Prater who had held the record for the NFL’s longest ever field goal, thanks to 64-yard effort for the Denver Broncos against San Francisco in December 2013.

Prater’s is now only the third-longest field goal ever witnessed the NFL. This season, in the Cowboys' Week 3 defeat to the Ravens on September 22, Dallas’s Brandon Aubrey surpassed Prater’s mark with a 65-yard kick that broke the Cowboys' franchise record, but fell just short of the unprecedented distance managed by Tucker.

What’s the longest unsuccessful field-goal attempt in the NFL?

Before all three of the field goals mentioned above, there was an attempt by Sebastian Janikowski that would have raised the NFL bar to a whole other level. The Polish placekicker, who spent 17 years with the Raiders, went for a 76-yard field goal kick in a clash with the San Diego Chargers on September 28, 2008. Taken into the wind, Janikowski’s kick came up well short.

What is the NFL record for successful field goals in one game?

Just under a year before Janikowski’s unsuccessful attempt at NFL history, the Tennessee Titans' Rob Bironas set the record for converted field goals in a single league game. In a Week 7 clash with the Houston Texans in October 2007, Bironas successfully kicked eight field goals to lead the Titans to a 38-36 triumph.
