Update:

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been after quarterback Aaron Rodgers for some time now. Since the New York Jets released Rodgers, he’s been deliberating about what his next move will be. Will he just retire from the NFL completely, or will he make a deal with another team? If so, which team will that be?

It was previously reported that Rodgers was interested in the Minnesota Vikings, but their decision to stick with J.J. McCarthy rather than pursue a deal with Rodgers took them out of the picture. Since then, it’s looked like the Steelers would be the team to snag him.

Steelers finally closing in on deal with Rodgers?

Fast forward to the NFL Draft and the Steelers and Rodgers still haven’t made a deal. Rodgers has cited off-the-field personal issues as his reason for hesitation, though many speculated he was still holding out for the Vikings to potentially change their mind.

The Steelers, however, have not given up hope on Rodgers yet, having made him an offer in the first week of free agency. They went through all of the first round in Thursday’s draft without adding another quarterback either. With the 21st overall pick, the Steelers selected defensive tackle Derrick Harmon.

And according to an NFL insider, the deal may be finally happening soon. Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio said that a source told him that Rodgers will likely sign with Pittsburgh when the draft ends.

“I don’t know when it’s gonna happen,” Florio said. “I had somebody tell me recently, ‘He’s going to announce after the draft that he’s going to Pittsburgh.’ It will happen. Not sure when, but it will happen.”
