Amari Cooper has - we think - had his say on the rumours regarding moving to the San Francisco 49ers. Here’s what happened...

It all started with Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, who reported that the Cleveland Browns had included veteran wide receiver Amari Cooper in a trade offer to the San Francisco 49ers for Brandon Aiyuk, plus draft picks in the second and fifth rounds.

Cleveland and San Francisco worked out the numbers of the deal, but the agreement fell through after Aiyuk expressed that he did not want to play for the Browns - he wanted to go to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Soon after, Cooper shared the following message on his social media: “lol I wouldn’t mind at all”.

Amari Cooper contract details

At 30-years-old and entering the final year of his contract with the Browns, Cooper renegotiated his deal to alter a predominantly non-guaranteed contract into one that indeed guarantees him a fair fee. The Browns provided him with an opportunity to earn an additional $5 million in incentives while still allowing him to explore free agency after the season.

Joining the NFC champions with star names such as Christian McCaffery, wide receiver Deebo Samuel and tight end George Kittle would understandably be a huge draw for Cooper, who had 72 catches for 1,250 yards and five touchdowns in his second season at Cleveland in 2023.

From implying Brock Purdy’s injury saved the Philly from defeat, to stating the Chiefs are going to expose them, Brandon Aiyuk isn’t feeling the Eagles.

Of course, with no confirmation of what exactly Cooper was talking about, we can’t be certain that his message was in connection with the rumours that involve his name. I’ll allow the reader to make up their own mind.

The NFL season gets going on Thursday, September 5, with the Baltimore Ravens taking on the Kansas City Chiefs in NFL Week 1, setting up an intriguing season.
