Update:

Things might be starting to take shape in Tennessee after a couple disastrous years in the post Mike Vrable era. After a couple of three-win seasons and various coaching changes, Titans fans will be hoping to find some long lost joy in the upcoming season.

New era starts in Tennessee

Robert Saleh was named head coach of the Titans shortly after the season came to a close and the Brian Callahan/Mike McCoy era ended. Callahan was brought in to replace Vrable, and lasted just 23 games before getting the ax in Nashville. McCoy took over as interim, but never really had a shot at the head coaching job, especially after a 2-9 finish to the season.

Saleh spent the last season in San Francisco after a tenuous spell as head coach of the New York Jets. It was a tough two and a half years in the Big Apple but Saleh looked like himself once again when he returned to San Francisco and took over as the defensive coordinator.

One of the first orders of business for the new coach in town was to find an offensive coordinator that could come in and take former No. 1 pick of last year’s Draft Cam Ward. Saleh and the Titans top pick was Brian Daboll and by all accounts this is exactly the man he wants running his offense.

Daboll set sights on Ward last year

Daboll spent the last four seasons on the other side of New York coaching the Giants, and according to reports from NFL reporter Ari Meirov, Daboll was willing to trade for Ward before last year’s draft. In fact, Ward’s new offensive coordinator wanted him so bad that the Giants tried to trade their No. 3 pick, a 2026 1st rounder and multiple Day 2 picks just for a chance at Ward.

Things didn’t work out in New York for Daboll, and it’s hard to place all the blame on the coach. He was in charge on the sidelines when the Giants front office decided to pay Daniel Jones and let go of Saquon Barkley. Both left New York and had sensational seasons in their first year away from NYC. Then he got Jaxson Dart and Cam Skatteboo in the draft last year, and there was some momentum building around the rookies, but injuries side tracked the progress and it cost Daboll his job.

Now Daboll is in Tennessee looking to make a star out of Ward who had a difficult first season in which he saw two coaching changes. The one thing a young quaterback needs is consistency on the sidelines so he can learn how to play in a system and how to grow in a system. Daboll was the one responsible of guiding Josh Allen through that process and now it’s his turn with Ward in Tennessee.
