Brian Schottenheimer’s connection with Micah Parsons may shift contract talks
Dallas Cowboys pass rusher Micah Parsons is still waiting his contract extension, but new head coach Brian Scottenheimer could influence that.

The Cowboys still haven’t given star pass rusher Micah Parsons the lucrative contract extension he’s seeking. He warned the team that the longer they wait, the more expensive it will get for them as other players at his position (like Myles Garrett’s recent $160 million extension) continue to reset the standard in the market.
Browns DE Myles Garrett on what Micah Parsons deserves from the #Cowboys: I think he deserves whatever he's earned.. I mean, the guy is special. Once I got the chance to train with him, I've seen his work ethic.. He's 100% committed to his craft and getting better every day, and… pic.twitter.com/WP6n0kM10t

Despite the ongoing negotiations, Parsons did attend the team’s mandatory minicamp. And in a conversation with NFL insider Albert Breer, Dallas’ new head coach Brian Schottenheimer hinted at what might be coming next for Parsons.
A quiet influence behind Micah Parsons’ contract talks?
Schottenheimer is the Cowboys’ new head coach for the 2025 season, but he was the offensive coordinator the past two seasons and a consultant for the team the year before that, so he’s no stranger to the players or to how things run around there.
In his interview with Breer, Schottenheimer praised the star defender’s willingness to follow direction and his team-first mentality.
“This relationship I’ve developed with Micah is very evident in the fact that anything I’ve asked him to do, he’s done,” Schottenheimer said. “He’s been great.”
He also emphasized the importance of building genuine connections with players. His early efforts to connect with Parsons, including attending one of his charity events, appear to have built mutual trust - something Breer believes could help facilitate contract talks.
“To me, it was all about connections,” Schottenheimer said. “Being someone that was a coach that had been in the building, not just as a coordinator but as a consultant, I wanted to get back to the feeling where everyone wanted to get to know each other on a deeper level. Everyone was going in the same direction, and the best way to go in the same direction is to know everybody’s why and know everybody’s heartbeat for why they do what they do, why they make the sacrifice that they do.”
While no deal is in place yet, the strong relationship between Schottenheimer and Parsons may improve the chances of an agreement before training camp begins.
