Buffalo Bills 24 vs 10 New England Patriots summary: stats, and highlights | NFL Week 13

The Buffalo Bills got their first win in the AFC East on Thursday Night when they took down the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium.

The Buffalo Bills midseason losing skid seems ages away after rattling off three straight wins including their dominant display against the New England Patriots on Thursday Night. Josh Allen passed for 223 yards and two touchdowns in the Bills 24-10 victory from Gillette Stadium.

Bills ground and pound Pats

Since their two game losing skid in November, we had not seen Buffalo dominate a game like we grew accustomed to seeing at the beginning of the year. While the offense stats may now have been eye popping, the Bills had a firm grasp on the game from the very beginning thanks to a balanced mix of the pass and run game as the defense locked down the Patriots offense.

We are used to Allen throw for 300+ yards and the offense light up the scoreboard, but on Thursday the Bills controlled the clock and kept the Patriots defense on the field for nearly 40 minutes. Sean McDermott’s team ran 21 more plays than the Patriots did and while beating up a New England team that has an eye on a Wild Card spot.

The Bills scored a field goal on their opening drive to get the night going, but New England answered back with a spectacular play from the lightening quick Marcus Jones who broke a pass to the flat for 48 yards to give the Pats their first and only lead of the game.

Miller Place on IR, out at least four weeks

The joy was short lived, as Buffalo took command of the game by scoring touchdowns on their next two drives. Their first trip to the end zone came on the opening play of the second quarter when Stefon Diggs caught a perfectly placed 8 yard pass from Josh Allen in the corner of the end zone.

The next touchdown can be chalked up to the Bills quarterbacks’ brilliance. Scrambling right, and running out of room on the sideline, Allen waited until the last moment to release a pass to Gabe Davis in the back of the end zone to extend the lead to 14-3.

From there the Buffalo defense, who will be without Von Miller for at least the next three weeks, took over. The Patriots could barley move the ball against he Bills’ stingy defense who forced five punts in six possessions after allowing the early touchdown.

Buffalo chasing KC

Devin Singletary and the Bills run game was rewarded with a fourth quarter touchdown to seal the game on a night in which the Bills ran the ball 37 times for a total of 132 yards.

The 9-3 Bills are keeping pace with the rest of the top teams in the AFC, but still trail the 9-2 Kansas City Chiefs, and with the win tonight they take the momentary lead in the AFC East. The Patriots drop to 6-6 on the year after their second straight loss and are currently on the outside of the Wild Card picture.

Tonight's odds

According to Bet365.com the Bills are 4 points favorites on the road with the Over/Under set at 43.5.

as.com

Back to back Thursday games

Usually when a team plays a Thursday game it means they get a mini bye as it's been refered to in the NFL. The week and a half between games usually comes as a blessing to many teams, but that won't be the case tonight. Both of these teams played on Thanksgiving and will lace them up again on Thursday Night Football.

as.com

Allen back to his best?

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. It's been a tale of two seasons for Josh Allen and the Bills who looked invincible for the first half of the season, but the Bills hit a mini slump and Allen was one of the main targets of the finger pointing. He threw four interceptions in the two losses and coughed up a fumble that lost the Bills the game against Minnesota. He is still capable of producing magic on a weekly basis,  but Allen is tied for the lead for most interceptions with 11 picks this season.

Toughest division in football?

The AFC East was dominated by the Patriots for about two decades, but since Tom Brady left New England the Bills have take over as the powerhouses in the division. Not many people around the league expected the AFC East as tight as it is this season, but it is proving to be up there with the NFC East as the toughest division in football.

Pats last week

New England had their own winning streak they carried into Thanksgiving. Mac Jones led the Pats to a three straight wins over the Jets, twice and the Colts in between. They went into Minnesota and went blow for blow with the Vikings for three quarters, Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson put on a holiday special and the Vikes pulled away in the final quarter thanks to a an Adam Theilen 15 yard TD catch early in the fourth quarter and then the defense did the rest of the work.

Bills last week

The Bills went into Detroit for a Thanksgiving Day game on the national stage and came out of Ford Field with a win over the Lions. Detroit was riding a three game win streak coming into the holiday and they didn’t make it easy on Buffalo last Thursday. The Bills gave up a last minute field goal to the Lions which tied the game with 23 second left. Everyone knows that’s way too much time to give the Bills, and Buffalo marched down with on a deep shot from Allen to Stefon Diggs on the fist play of the drive to set up a 45 yard game winning field goal that Tyler Bass drilled as time expired.
