The Chicago Bears are barely in rookie minicamp and they already know who will be the starting quarterback for the 2024 NFL season. What was a known secret has been confirmed by head coach Matt Eberflus, when he announced Caleb Williams, the first pick in the last Draft, as the starting QB of the team.

“There is no conversation, he (Williams) is the starter,” Eberflus said at a press conference.

Williams, a graduate of the University of Southern California, shone at the university level after accumulating 10,082 passing yards and 93 touchdowns during his college years. Additionally, he won the Heisman Trophy in 2022.

The other options for Chicago were Tyson Bagent, Brett Rypien and Austin Reed. The first started four games last year for the Bears, while the other two arrived in the recent free agency.

Caleb Williams, willing to listen to veterans to become a leader

Williams will be the starting quarterback, but he knows he is not yet the leader the team needs. However, he is willing to learn from the Bears' veterans in order to guide his team in the near future.

To be a great leader, you must learn how to follow first, so now I follow the veterans, the coaches,” said the USC graduate. “I am listening, my ears are open and my mouth is closed. When it gets to the point where I learn everything, know the whole team culture, the game plan and what my teammates do, then I can start leading.”
