Can the Green Bay Packers still make the playoffs? What do they need to do?

Green Bay’s 24-12 victory at Lambeau Field on Monday Night Football keeps their playoff hopes alive. Now all they need is a miracle to make the post season.

It’s been a tough 2022 NFL season for the Green Bay Packers, and they are now tiptoeing along the precipice, only ever a game away from having their season snatched away from them. With Monday night’s 24-12 victory over the Los Angeles Rams, they are still breathing. Short, shallow breaths, to be sure, but alive nonetheless.

They currently have a 6-8 record and their two wins in a row have seen them rise to 10th place in the NFC standings. The Packers have three games left and Aaron Rodgers thinks that “things are looking up” for their playoff chances.

“When you win a couple in a row, it starts to give you some confidence now we’re playing against some better football teams down the stretch that we can go to Miami and win.”

Green Bay needs a miracle

“I think it’s just, you win a game, vibes are pretty good and we’ve just been practicing a little bit better, the energy’s been a little bit better,” Rogers said. “It’s hard to put your finger on it. We’ve played a couple teams we should have beat. That being said, it’s still tough to win in the league, and I said it earlier, I think we can beat anybody.”

With the Vikings clinched as NFC North champs, the road to the playoffs goes through the Wild Cards for Green Bay, and it is a twisting and tortuous one. They would need to run the table, beating Miami next week, followed by the Vikings and Lions to end out the regular season.

Assuming that the Packers can do this, which would be miraculous in itself, they would still need a bit of divine intervention. This would put them at 9-8, but they currently sit one game behind both the Seahawks and the Lions, and one-and-a-half games behind the Commanders.

They would need those teams to drop a game, and keep an eye on the Panthers, Saints, and Falcons who are just behind Green Bay and all sniffing for their own Wild Card spot. All told, the Packers chances of making the playoffs are at 5%, which would drop to zero if they lose one more game.
