Week 10 of the NFL’s 2022-23 season has arrived and we’ve got an interesting matchup between the Panthers and Falcons. This is actually the second time in 12 days that the two teams have met, with the Falcons having won 37-34 via a Younghoe Koo 41-yard field goal in overtime back on October 30th. With that said, both teams are coming into this game after losing. Atlanta lost to the Chargers last Sunday, while Carolina went down to the Bengals. Still, it must be said that the Falcons are tied at the top of the division with a record of 4-5. The Panthers on the other hand, have the worst record in the NFC with 2-7. Interestingly reports indicate that the Panthers are set to start quarterback P.J. Walker once more, after benching him at halftime in Week 9.

Panthers vs Falcons: The Preview

Atlanta’s rushing game is on point

With one of the best rushing attacks in the league, Atlanta can be a handful on the ground. Led by the duo of Tyler Allgeier and Cordarrelle Patterson, the Falcons average 162.9 rushing yards per game, which is ranked fourth in the league in case you’re wondering. Indeed, their 11 rushing touchdowns are tied for the third-most. Another notable factor about the Falcons is that they commit very few penalties. To date, the Falcons have averaged just 4.3 penalties per game, which ranks second, behind only the Rams who are averaging 4.0

Panthers are bringing Brian Burns to the party

With pass rusher Brian Burns in their ranks, Carolina have got a serious weapon. The No. 16 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Burns currently ranks 13th in the league in sacks (six) and eighth in pressures (36). To give you an idea of just how important he is, reports indicated that Carolina rejected two first-round picks and a second-round pick from the Rams at the trade deadline in exchange for Burns. Adding to their chances, is the fact that the Panthers will be facing an Atlanta defense that is struggling. To be clear, the Falcons have given up 300.0 passing yards per game, which is the worst average in the league. In total they’ve allowed 15 passing touchdowns.

Panthers vs Falcons: The Prediction

Given the narrow margin by which they lost on the road just under two weeks ago, it would be tempting to think that the Panthers could take down the Falcons playing at home. On the other hand, the aforementioned Patterson is a serious problem. Add to that, the fact that we don’t know which P.J. Walker will turn up come game time and you can see where we’re going with this. While we don’t expect a blowout in this one, we’re going with Atlanta to complete the sweep over their division rivals. Final verdict? Falcons get the W with a 26 - 20 scoreline.
