Another strip sack of Wilson led to a run back from Alohi Gilman which he returned all the way down to the two yard line, and Austin Ekeler was there to seal the game with this two yard TD run, his second of the night.
The Chargers are now back to .500 after a rough start to the season, while the Jets drop to 4-4 and are trying to hold on until maybe just maybe, Aaron Rodgers is healthy enough to comeback.
Rodgers was seen walking into the stadium with no crutches, no brace and no limp and was slinging passes in the pregame. That's about the only comforting sight the Jets fans saw after another lackluster performance on the offensive end.
Wilson had 263 yards passing and Breece Hill had 50 yards rushing but the Jets couldn't make the most of their trips into LA territory.
Herbert went for 136 yards on 16/30 passing on a night in which the Chargers gained just 191 yards.
Keenan Allen didn't just set a milestone in NY, he did it in fashion dragging in this big third down catch to extend the Chargers drive and surpass 10,000 yards in this career.
The Chargers had 8 sacks on Zach Wilson which resulted in a total loss of 57 yards.
The Jets actually outgained the Chargers, whose offense struggled to move the ball against the Jets defense. But with the punt return TD, and all the mistakes on the offensive side of the ball, they didn't have to do much.
The leader in rushing TDs over the last two years, Austin Ekeler, knows what to do with the ball around the goal line. He set up the less than one yard run with a 19 yard screen pass he took inside the 1.
He ended the night with 47 yards rushing and two TDs to go along with his 23 yards receiving.
Joey Bosa is slowly getting back to his best and we saw signs of that on Monday Night. He stripped Zach Wilson and recovered the fumble that would lead to a TD just a few plays later.
On the next possession, it was Garrett Wilson who coughed up the football which was recovered by Derwin James Jr. on the first of two opening quarter fumbles.
Both teams went three and out to start their opening drives, but it was the Chargers special teams that struck first with this 87 yard punt return from the rookie Derius Davis.

The Chargers storm into New York and ground the Jets. They used three TOs, including two in the first quarter to jump ahead on New York and cruised to victory to improve to 4-4 while the Jets fall to 4-4

Ekeler punched it into the endzone after the Bosa fumble recovery, as the Chargers doubled their lead. The Chargers had just 108 yards of offense but took advantage of their chances they got in the first half, while the Jets gained just 104 yards but only have 6 first downs and three points.

Then it was Bosa who stripped Wilson, and recovered the fumble to set up the second scoring drive for the Chargers.
Everyone though it was going to be the Jets getting the takeaways on Monday night against the Chargers, but Wilson fumbled after getting stripped by Gillman and it was recovered by James on the sideline.
After a couple of three and outs from both teams to start the night, it's Derius Davis who shows the lightening for the Bolts on this 87 yard TD return.

Tonight's odds
The Chargers come into tonight's game as 3 point favorites with the Over/Under set at 41.
The Chargers are going to want to turn this into a shootout, but I don't think the Jets are going to let them. I think the Chargers get the win but keep this game in the teens.

Jets D bringing shame to QBs
It sounded harsh when he said it, but he might have a point. After the Jets win over the Eagles, Robert Saleh made a bold statement saying "We've played a gauntlet of quarterbacks. And I know we haven't gotten all wins, but we've embarrassed all of them," The played the Bills and beat them, while holding Josh Allen to 236 yards, one TD and picking him off three times. They lost to Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs but held the reigning MVP to 203 yards, a TD and 2 INTs. In their win over the Eagles, they allowed 280 yards, but picked off Jalen Hurts three times as the Jets shocked the Eagles here at MetLife. Tonight they play a QB looking to put himself in the same conversation as those gunslingers, while the Jets will be looking to add to the embarrassment of one of the leagues top QBs.
Cool Breece
Breece Hall came into the league as one of the most promising running backs in his draft class after getting drafted out Iowa State. He gave us a very small sample size last year, but has we saw from him before he was sidelined with a season ending knee injury was fantastic. This year he has shown flashes of that brilliance, and he is averaging 5.7 yards a carry. He has only got more than 12 carries once this year, and that came against the Broncos, a game he rushed for 177 yards and 1 TD. It’s not easy to run the ball when you have a quarterback that is as shaky as Wilson, but if they can get Hall into the game, that will make Wilson’s life so much easier.
Just don’t lose it
Zach Wilson is no Aaron Rodgers. That’s not something I needed to tell you, but it helps us imagine how good this Jets team could be if they had the four time MVP under center. Having said that, Wilson is doing less to lose games these days than he was in the early part of the season. He threw four picks in the first two games of the season. Since then he has thrown just one. He has only thrown one TD in the last three games, but it has been enough to help the Jets to a three game win streak. The Jets don’t need Wilson to win games, they just need him not to lose any.
Bolts need some lightening
There is no question about Justin Herbert having a great arm. There is no that Justin Herbert is capable of putting up a 300 yard game on any given Sunday (or Monday in this case). But is he an elite quarterback? There are pundits and experts who have making the case that the Chargers quarterback does deserve to be in the conversation with Mahomes, and Tua, and Joe Burrow, and while his used to be comparable to those guys, his wins and losses have never. Chargers last week
After brutal games against the Cowboys and the Chiefs, the Chargers got back into the win column last week against the Chicago Bears on Sunday night. Austin Ekeler started the Bolts off on the right foot with a 39 yard screen pass he took to the house helped LA jump out to a 14-0 first quarter lead. Herbert passed for a couple pennies short of three hundred yards as the defense picked off rookie QB Tyler Bagent twice in the 30-13 win.
Jets last week
It was just about as ugly of a game you could have asked for last week in MetLife. Breece Hall took a first quarter screen pass 50 yards to the house, but then Zach Wilson and the Jets offense went to sleep for the next three quarters. Luckily for them the Giants could barley score either. A first quarter field goal and a third quarter Tommy DeVito TD run had the Giants up 10-7 with Graham Gano on the field set to his side up six with 28 seconds left, but he missed a 35 yard kick to open the door for the Jets. Four plays later Greg Zuerlein tied the game up with a 35 yard field goal as time expired, and after the Jets D got a stop, he would kick the game winner from 33 yards out.

It’s been a near miracle that they have made it to Week 9 above .500 after watching Aaron Rodgers go down in the first series of the season opener, but the defense has been heroic and Zach Wilson is doing just enough to not lost ball games. The Chargers have had an underwhelming first half of the season that has been marred by injuries, but the Chargers but they have a chance to get to .500 with a win tonight in the Meadowlands.
