Commanders rookie Brian Robinson shot during robbery attempt

Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson was shot several times in the attack but is in stable condition according to reports.

The Washington Commanders picked up Brian Robinson in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft and had pinned their hopes on the Alabama star to lead their rushing game in the new campaign. However, Robinson, 23, was shot several times in an apparent robbery attempt on Sunday, multiple media outlets reported.

NBC Sports Washington reported that the injuries from the shooting were not life-threatening. Robinson rushed for 57 yards on 14 carries with one touchdown this preseason, adding two catches for 15 yards.

As a senior at Alabama in 2021, Robinson rushed for 1,343 yards with 14 touchdowns for the national title runners-up.

According to the report by NBC Sports Washington’s JP Finlay, the Commanders rookie is in stable condition after the attempted robbery in Washington DC. The Commanders also confirmed that the running back was hospitalized.

Robinson vying for Commanders starting spot

The attack occurred in the Northeast H Street area of the city, according to the Washington Metropolitan Police.

During the Commanders training camp, Robinson was aiming to install himself as the franchise’s first choice for the season ahead of Antonio Gibson and J.D. McKissic. The rookie didn’t feature in the team’s final preseason game.

Robinson spent five years overall with the Alabama Crimson Tide, playing in a toal of 55 college games and racking up 3,150 yards and 31 touchdowns.
