Cooper DeJean gets emotional talking about his parents at the Super Bowl: “My dad almost started crying”
Eagles rookie DeJean was one of the heroes of Philadelphia’s Super Bowl LIX win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

Cooper DeJean paid tribute to his parents in an emotional interview on the Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams, as he reacted to his starring role in the Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
TD scorer and fans' MVP in Eagles' Super Bowl success
On his 22nd birthday, the rookie cornerback contributed a memorable touchdown to the Eagles’ 40-22 win over the Chiefs on Sunday, intercepting a pass by Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes to run in a 38-yard score.
DeJean’s Super Bowl touchdown capped a debut NFL season in which he also made the PFWA All-Rookie Team, as he overcame the disappointment of being overlooked in the first round of last April’s Draft.
Selected by the Eagles at No. 40, on day two of the Draft, the former Iowa Hawkeyes star was the fans’ pick for MVP at Super Bowl LIX, although he was beaten in the overall vote by Eagles team-mate Jalen Hurts.
Speaking to Kay Adams today, DeJean was visibly moved as he discussed the role his parents, Jason and Katie, have played in guiding him along the path towards achieving the status of Super Bowl champion.

“That was definitely pretty emotional”
“They’ve supported me my whole life - they’ve put work into me,” DeJean said. “They taught me to be a humble and hard-working kid growing up. They’ve been there every step of the way, they’ve sacrificed a lot to come watch me play different sports, travelling around the country watching me play.
“And to see them in that [Super Bowl touchdown] moment - someone took a video of them after I had scored the touchdown, of my parents in the stands. I’ve never seen my dad get that excited before about a play I made. That was definitely pretty emotional, watching that back.
“I’m just glad they get to experience it with me. They’ve been there every step of the way, since I was a little kid, to Draft Day, the first day I was pretty disappointed. [But] everything […] worked out, and now I’m a Philadelphia Eagle and Super Bowl champ, so it all worked out.”
Asked what his father said to him when he saw him after the Super Bowl, DeJean recalled: “I think he almost started crying, when I have him a big hug. He actually brought up Draft Day - he said, ‘Just think about how disappointed you were on Draft Day, that first day, and now here you are. And everything’s worked out.’”
