Cowboys’ playoff hopes rest on Dak Prescott staying healthy - not Joe Milton
The Dallas Cowboys had better hope quarterback Dak Prescott can stay healthy this season because their QB2 is not the answer.

When the Dallas Cowboys first signed quarterback Cooper Rush in 2017, he didn’t show any real signs of being a reliable backup quarterback. In the end though, he proved to be just that. With Dak Prescott out for a good chunk of two seasons, Rush was sturdy.
We can only hope that’s what will happen with their new QB2, Joe Milton III. But unfortunately, I can’t say that hope is very high.

Joe Milton’s cannon arm could be Dallas’ biggest liability
The Cowboys are taking a gamble by making Milton their primary backup behind Prescott. Known for his massive arm strength but plagued by accuracy issues, Milton flamed out quickly with the New England Patriots before landing in Dallas.

Milton, however, doesn’t see his arm strength as a problem at all.
“I don’t understand why people say I throw the ball so hard,” Milton said. “I’m literally not throwing the ball hard. It just comes off my hand like that. I was born and blessed that way. If you think I’m throwing the ball hard, you shouldn’t be in the NFL.”

While Milton insists his velocity is natural and not a problem, he has yet to prove he has the touch to succeed in the NFL. With Brian Schottenheimer entering his first season as head coach, the Cowboys’ playoff hopes largely hinge on Prescott’s health, because turning to Milton could be disastrous.
The chances of Prescott being healthy 100% of the season are very low. The best Dallas can hope for is that he only has to miss one or two games rather than eight like last year.
