Cowboys’ RB room just got the wildest praise of the offseason
The Dallas Cowboys seem to have improved their running back room from last season, but that’s not exactly saying much.

Last season, the Dallas Cowboys had one of the worst running back rooms in the league. They’ve since made some changes that should see it improve, but how significantly it will improve remains a question.

Outside of Kaiir Elam, Sanders is another name that got the attention of people during OTAs/Minicamp.

While it seems unlikely that the changes they’ve made will have much of an impact, one article from “Inside the Star” has claimed otherwise.
Cowboys’ “lethal” running back room?
Rico Dowdle led the Cowboys in rushing yards last season with 1,079. They ranked 24th in the league with an average of 100.3 rush yards per game and just six rushing touchdowns. It would be difficult to perform that poorly again in 2025, but the best backfield in the NFC East it is not.
The Cowboys let Dowdle walk, but kept veteran running back Deuce Vaughn around, who was their RB4 last season. They also added Javonte Williams, Miles Sanders, and rookie Jaydon Blue. Both Williams and Sanders are pretty far-removed from their best seasons, and Blue has never played an NFL snap. So the Cowboys RB room in 2025 is still a pretty big question mark.

Blue should bring an explosive element to the offense this season as a runner and a receiver.

But for some reason, Cody Warren of “Inside the Star” insists that Dallas may actually have the best running back room in the NFC East, calling it “lethal”.
“At running back, Dallas has quietly built a lethal rotation, no matter what the analysts say,” Warren wrote. “Javonte Williams provides physicality, Miles Sanders adds veteran reliability and versatility, and rookie Jaydon Blue has Alvin Kamara-type potential. Compared to the Eagles’ aging backfield and the unsteady running situations in Washington and New York, the Cowboys have the clear edge in both versatility and ceiling.”
Did Warren forget that the “aging backfield” in Philly includes Saquon Barkley, who led the league in rushing last season? He didn’t seem to be affected by Father Time. The Giants have emerging talent like Tyrone Tracy, and Washington’s duo of Brian Robinson and Austin Ekeler is more established. While Dallas’ group could surprise, calling it the best in the division is at best a bold stretch.
