Dallas Cowboys 40-0 New York Giants, Dallas dominates Giants, summary: score, stats, highlights | NFL Week 1
Cowboys defeat Giants 40-0
Cowboys dominate Giants from all angles
The Dallas Cowboys absolutely embarrassed the New York Giants in their own stadium with a 40-0 blowout win in their 2023 NFL season opener. It was the biggest shutout win in a season opener in Cowboys history as well as the biggest shutout loss in Giants history.
Dominant Dallas D
The Giants couldn’t get anything going on offense as the Cowboys defense dominated them with seven sacks, nine tackles for a loss, five forced fumbles two interceptions, and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Giants QB Daniel Jones went just 15 of 28 for 104 yards and had two interceptions.
Giants weaknesses on full display
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott loves to beat the Giants. He has thrown more TDs against the Giants (23) than any other NFL team. Two rushing touchdowns from RB Tony Pollard and one from WR Kavontae Turpin added to the 40 points in this game, though. Prescott was 13-of-24 for 143 yards. He's now beaten the Giants in 11 straight games with 23 touchdowns and just seven interceptions.
Everything went wrong for the Giants - fumbles, interceptions, missed field goals, sloppy passes, sloppy catches. From the very beginning when Noah Igbinoghene returned the ball 58 yards for a TD, the Giants were never able to come back from it.
Even when the Cowboys finally opted to put in backup QB Cooper Rush in place of Dak Prescott, the Giants couldn't find an answer.
Next up...
The Cowboys will move on to play the New York Jets at home for Week 2 while the Giants look to swing back when they play the Arizona Cardinals in Phoenix on Sunday.

Cowboys vs Giants: INACTIVES
The Giants and Cowboys have released their inactives list, answering some questions about who will and won't be suiting up tonight. Take a look...
McCarthy calling the shots
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy will be doing the playcalling this season after offensive coordinator Kellen Moore left at the end of last year. McCarthy hasn't called plays since he was with the Packers four years ago, with Aaron Rodgers as their quarterback. It will be the first time a Cowboys head coach has been the playcaller in nearly 10 years.
Players to watch
Dallas Cowboys players to watch vs Giants
Tony Pollard: Running back Tony Pollard is the Cowboys' main guy after they gave him the $10.1 million franchise tag, but he'll have to prove he can do as well without Ezekiel Elliott helping with pass protection.
Brandin Cooks and Stephen Gilmore: Wide receiver Brandin Cooks was traded to the Cowboys from the Texans this offseason and should help take some pressure off WR1 CeeDee Lamb. They also added a key player on defense with cornerback Stephen Gilmore, just one more All-Pro player alongside Trevon Diggs.
New York Giants players to watch vs Cowboys
Darren Waller: Tight end Darren Waller was added from the Raiders during the Giants' offseason. All throughout training camp and the preseason, he's been QB Daniel Jones' favorite target, combining for three catches for 30 yards on a game-opening TD drive against Carolina. Unfortunately, he was added to the injury report with a hamstring issue late, but is expected to play against the Cowboys regardless.
Evan Neal: The Giants' right tackle Evan Neal said the worst game of his career was against the Cowboys last season, when he allowed five pressures and three sacks in 54 pass-block snaps. In total, the Cowboys had eight sacks against the Giants in two games last season (the Giants didn't have any against the Cowboys). Neal will have to prove he's improved since then with the footwork he's done this offseason.
Parsons doesn't expect a walk in the park vs Giants
I think they put together a great offseason, just like we did. They got great guys who they already had. Just a rivalry just makes it so much harder, such a better game and something you’ve really got to prepare for. Because they’re going to come and give us their best shot. Each game last year came down to the wire, so it’s not a game that we’re just like, ‘Man, this is a game,’ every game. This is like a Super Bowl."
Cowboys vs Giants key injuries
For the Cowboys, guard Tyler Smith (hamstring) and safety DonovanWilson (calf) are listed as Doubtful and offensive tackle TyronSmith (ankle) is listed as Questionable.
For the Giants, wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson (knee) is listed as Doubtful.
Cowboys vs Giants history
The Giants have not beaten the Cowboys with Dak Prescott at the helm since 2016. The Cowboys also have the lead in wins at MetLife Stadium, 7-6. The Giants are on a four-game losing streak against the Cowboys and are 1-7 since Daniel Jones arrived in 2019. Jones is 1-5 in his six starts against the Cowboys.
This time, the Cowboys are favored to win on the road once again.
