DaRon Bland gets $92M deal as Cowboys move on from Parsons
The Dallas Cowboys didn’t manage to get Micah Parsons his paycheck, instead trading him to Green Bay. But they did lock up another key defensive player.
The Dallas Cowboys made headlines by trading away star pass rusher Micah Parsons instead of paying him, but they’ve now locked up one of their other defensive stars.
From one college offer to $92M NFL star: Cowboys reward DaRon Bland
Cornerback DaRon Bland agreed to a four-year, $92 million contract extension with Dallas, with $50 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Bland, who turns 26 this season, had his major breakout season in 2023, when he recorded nine interceptions and an NFL-record five pick-sixes. His rise is remarkable given he had just one college offer out of high school before working his way from Sacramento State to Fresno State and into the NFL spotlight.
“I was the guy that didn’t have too many offers out of high school,” Bland said in the past. “Just keep going. You’ll never know when your opportunity is going to come.”
With Trevon Diggs returning, Dallas still boasts one of the league’s best cornerback duos, and with the addition of Kenny Clark on the interior defensive line, the Cowboys defense is still loaded even without Parsons on the roster.
