Russell Wilson announces retirement after 14 NFL seasons and joins CBS Sports
The quarterback, a Super Bowl winner with the Seattle Seahawks, confirmed his retirement from the gridiron before the 2026 season.

Russell Wilson is officially hanging up his cleats. After 14 seasons in the National Football League, the veteran quarterback announced on his social media accounts that he will not return to the field next season, closing the book on one of the most notable careers of his generation.
Wilson entered the league as the 75th overall pick in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft, selected by the Seattle Seahawks. He quickly became the face of the franchise, leading Seattle to a Super Bowl title in the 2013–14 season.

In Super Bowl XLVIII, Wilson and the Seahawks dominated the Denver Broncos 43–8. Wilson completed 18 of 25 passes for 206 yards and threw two touchdowns, cementing his place among the league’s elite.

From Seattle Star to Denver Struggles
After 10 seasons as Seattle’s starting quarterback, Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos, where he spent two turbulent years. He started 30 regular‑season games, finishing with an 11–19 record and missing the playoffs both seasons.

A brief stop in Pittsburgh
Though retirement seemed near, Wilson signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, appearing in 11 regular‑season games. Pittsburgh reached the postseason, and Wilson started their playoff matchup, but the Steelers fell short.
Final chapter with the Giants
Wilson’s last NFL snaps came with the New York Giants, where he played six games, starting three — all losses. Those appearances marked the end of his on‑field career.
A new role at CBS Sports
Before announcing his retirement, it was confirmed that Wilson will join CBS Sports as an NFL analyst, following a path similar to Tom Brady. His transition to broadcasting marks the beginning of a new chapter for the former Pro Bowler.
