Lions 20 vs 16 Packers summary: stats and highlights | Green Bay, Rodgers out of the playoffs
The Detroit Lions had their hearts broken pregame, but still managed to spoil their divisional rivals chances to get to the playoffs when they beat the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on Sunday Night. Former Packer, Jamaal Williams had two touchdowns in the 20-16 knockout victory in the Frozen Tundra.
Seahawks on to the playoffs
A little more than a half hour before kick off in Green Bay the Lions watched the Jumbotron at Lambeau Field helplessly as the Seattle Seahawks ended their chances of making a run to the playoffs with an overtime game winning field goal to take down the Los Angeles Rams. That meant the Packers still had a chance at a playoff spot, but all the Lions could do was ruin the night of a team that has ruined so many of their nights over the last decade or two.
Neither team came out looking too impressive in the first half, as both offenses sputtered throughout the two quarters. Both teams were kept out of the end zone as the game turned in to a battle of field goals early on. The Packers got the first points of the game on the opening drive of the evening, but then a turn over on downs deep in their own territory on the next possession allowed the Lions to tie the game up at 3-3 midway through the first quarter.
The Packers would add two more Mason Crosby field goals and looked on the verge of extending their 9-3 lead late in the first half when Aaron Jones fumbled as Green Bay was driving. Jared Goff marched the Lions down the field and Marvin Badgely chipped into the lead as the Packers went to the break up 9-6.
Former Packer spoils GB’s postseason hopes
The Lions offense came to life in the third quarter when Goff hit Kalif Raymond on a 43 yard bomb that set up a Jamaal Williams one yard touchdown. The Lions running back was a member of the Packers for the previous three seasons before Green Bay decided to part ways with him this offseason, and he had his pay back in Week 18.
The Packers would punch back after trailing for the first time on Sunday night. Rodgers led a drive highlighted by a 45 yard deep ball to Christian Watson which set up a 13 yard TD pass to Allen Lazard and the Packers took a 16-13 lead late in the third quarter.
Williams and D’Andre Swift would take control as the game entered the fourth quarter and the two Detroit running backs carried the Lions down the field. Williams, who had 72 yards on 16 carries would punch his second touchdown of the game into the end zone to give the visitors a 20-16 lead with under 6 minutes left in the game after a long, 13 play, eight minute drive.
Is this the end for Rodgers?
Rodgers and the Packers had more than enough time to get down the field and score, but as this season has proved, that has been no easy task for Green Bay. Rodgers launched a deep ball on 3rd and 10 looking for another big play to Watson, but instead it was Kerby Joseph who came up with the interception, his third on Rodgers this season, to bury the Packers and send them crashing out of the playoffs.
Rodgers went 17/27 for 205 yards, one TD and threw an interception on his last play of the season and what could turn out to be his last play ever. The Packers now head into an offseason full of uncertainty while the Lions will await next season with their heads held high knowing there could be promising things to come in Detroit.
Kerby Joseph came up with the game winning interception deep in the fouth quarter to shut the playoff door on the Packers. This could be the last play of Aaron Rodgers tenure as Packers QB. It might even be the last pass of his career.
Williams punched in his second TD of the game and set a new Lions franchise record with his 17th rushing TD of the season, passing Barry Sanders.
The Packers responded on the next drive when Aaron Rodgers found Allen Lazard in the back of the end zone to put the Pack back in the lead.
A deep shot form Jared Goff to Kalif Raymond set up this 1 yard TD from the former Packer Jamaal Williams to give the Lions their first lead of the game.
The biggest play of the first half and maybe the game was the Aaron Jones fumble that was recovered by Will Harris. The LIons went from seeing their deficit extend to cutting into it with a field goal right before half.
Both teams could only manage field goals in the first half as each side were frustrated in the red zone.
NIehter team got out to hot starts on the offensive end the defenses dictated early on. Aidan Hutchinson wrapped up his rookie season with a two sack performance in his first game at Lambeau.

Previous match up
The Packers and Lions met in Week 9 back in early November, and it was a game to forget for Green Bay. Aaron Rodgers there almost 300 yards, but threw three interceptions as the Packers scored just nine points all game. It’s wasn’t much better for the Lions, but Jared Goff’s fourth quarter TD pass to James Mitchell locked up the win for Detroit.
Damar Hamlin tribute
All over the NFL we have seen teams, players, coaches and fans outpouring their love, support and prayers to Bills safety Damar Hamlin. Hamlin is progressing in a Cincinnati hospital after collapsing and suffering a cardiac arrest in Buffalo’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals last Monday night, and the league is paying tribute to Hamlin as he continues to fight pay draping a white and red outlined three all over the stadiums, fields and clothes of the players and coaches across the league.
NFC standings
There is just one spot left in the NFC playoff picture, and who moves on will be decided on the final week of the season. There were three teams in contention coming into today, and after the Seahawks win over the Rams earlier today, just the Rodgers and the that means the Lions have been eliminated and the Packers need a win to move on and knock Seattle out of the playoffs at the finish line

Williams played three season with the Packers before they parted ways with him this offseason, and now their former running back has a chance to keep the Packers out of the playoffs only months after letting him go to their divisional rivals.
UPDATE!!!
The Detroit Lions have officially been ellimintaed from the playoffs after the the Seahawks beat the Rams with a game winning field goal in overtime.
No. 12 is in the house
You’d have to be crazy to bet against Aaron Rodgers on a do or die game at Lambeau Field. He may not be having the best season of his career, but there are players like Rodgers, like Brady like Mahomes you just don’t bet against in these situations. The Lions defense is one of the worst of the league, so if he was going have the game of the season Packers are hoping it will be tonight.
Lions last week
The Lions rebounded from a tough Week 16 loss in Carolina with a huge win over their NFC North enemy, the Chicago Bears last week. Justin Fields had a huge first quarter which put the Bears in the lead after the first 15 minutes, but the Lions took control of the game on the ground, rushing for 265 yards and Jared Goff tossed three touchdowns in the 41-10 blowout from Ford Field.
UPDATE!!!
The Seahawks just missed a game winning field goal that would have kept them alive in the playoff hunt, but they are on their way to overtime in Lumen Field. They have won the toss, and will get the ball first in the overtime session. This keeps the Lions alive at the moment, but they need the Rams to win.
Packers last week
Last week the Packers finally had thier performance of the season, and they waited until the most important game of the season. They gave the division leading Minnesota Vikings a beat down in Green Bay as Matt LeFleur’s had his team firing on all cylinders. Aaron Rodgers had a modest game at 159 yards and a TD, but the run game went for 163 and two more TDs while the defense caused four turnovers including a pick six against the potent Vikes offense to seal their fourth straight win and set up a must win matchup tonight.
