Football fans put this NFL head coach on a pedestal: Happiest, most intelligent and chilled HC
Which NFL head coaches are the most intelligent? And which ones are the happiest and most chill? Sportsbook Review conducted a survey to find out.
Like any high-ranking position, being the head coach of an NFL team comes with responsibilities and the constant pressure to deliver results. Some coaches manage to take the rough ‘n’ tumble of elite sport in their stride. These are the ones who never get flustered - they know through experience that the bad moments are only temporary, form is cyclical, an upturn is usually just around the corner.
With the 2025 NFL playoffs underway, Sportsbook Review conducted a survey to find out which coaches in both conferences appear the happiest in their job. And at the opposite end of the scale, those who have failed or made a bad situation worse. Spare a thought for the seven coaches who were handed their marching orders in 2024-25 - the most recent bring Jerod Mayo, drafted in by New England to replace Bill Belichick but who ended the regular season with a woeful 4-13 record.
Over 2,500 fans took part in Sportsbook Review’s poll, who had to rank their team’s coaches based on a variety of criteria such as how happy, miserable, temperamental, chill and uptight they appear on a scale of 0-10. The results are very interesting...
Andy Reid, the smartest and the most chill
Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid tops three of the rankings. Fans feel that the 66-year-old is not only the happiest of the 32 coaches in the NFL but also the most intelligent. Reid guided the defending Super Bowl champions to a 15-2 regular season, earning the team a bye in the first round. Kansas City are aiming for an unprecedented ‘three-peat’ with the team at +350 to win Super Bowl LIX just behind Detroit.
Whatever happens between now and 9 February, Reid won’t let anything get himself or his players down. He’s the happiest coach in the league with a score of 8.8, just pipping the Lions’ Dan Campbell to top spot. Supporters say that Reid is the most intelligent, giving him a score of 8.9 and the most chill, topping the chart with 19.6% of votes, ahead of the Miami Dolphins’ Mike McDaniel (14.5%).
The most on-edge NFL coaches
As for the most uptight coach - that honor goes to the Dallas Cowboys’ Mike McCarthy. It’s easy to see why McCarthy was a bag of nerves during the regular season - his team were all over the place in an erratic campaign, but ended with a flourish with three wins from the last five to finish 7-10 and second from bottom in the NFC East. Nevertheless, the team’s disappointing season ended up costing him his job.
The most temperamental coach, according to fans, was Nick Sirianni. His Eagles topped the NFC East (14-3) and have booked their place in the divisional round after seeing off the Packers in the Wild Card series (10-22). Philadelphia face the Los Angeles Rams in the next round.
