Former Chiefs star reveals the big problem that Kansas City needs to fix: “So many holes”
Super Bowl LIV champion Tyrann Mathieu wants to see more support for quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Time is running out for the Kansas City Chiefs to save their stuttering 2025 season.
After reaching the Super Bowl in five of the last six seasons, there is a very real possibility that the Chiefs might miss the postseason entirely this year. Sitting third in the AFC West with a 6-6 record, what has been the big problem for Kansas City this season?
That was the question posed to former Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu during an appearance on Up & Adams on Monday. Mathieu played 12 seasons in the NFL and was a part of the Chiefs team that triumphed at Super Bowl LIV. He believes that the team has become overly reliant on Patrick Mahomes’ ability to run the ball.

“One change I would like to see for next year...” Mathieu began. “I feel like they got so many holes. I would really like for them to get a running back that can really take that pressure off of [Patrick] Mahomes.”
One look at the league’s rushing yards statistics confirms that the running game has been a real weakness for the Chiefs. Their most productive runner has been Kareem Hunt with 515 rushing yards, but he is a long way from league-leading Jonathan Taylor on 1282 yards.
Mathieu’s suggestion of a new running back may well be a top priority for the Chiefs in the offseason but there’s not much that can be done at this point to reinforce the team. Coach Andy Reid may need to rely on a few more moments of magic from Mahomes to lift them into the playoff places.
