Game changer: Josh Allen’s battle with Mahomes' Chiefs could be without one of the Bills' key weapons

The Buffalo Bills are competing against the Kansas City Chiefs this weekend with a trip to Super Bowl LIX on the line and they need all hands on deck.

The Buffalo Bills will have a shot at going to the Super Bowl this year. They just have to beat Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on the road first. Unfortunately for the Bills, they could be without a key player in Sunday’s AFC Conference Championship match.

Christian Benford injured

The Bills need all the weapons they can muster against Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, whom they have struggled to stop in the playoffs in the past. One of those weapons was supposed to be cornerback Christian Benford, but the Bills may be without him this Sunday.

In the Bills' Divisional Round game against the Baltimore Ravens, Benford suffered a blow to the head and was placed in the league’s concussion protocol.

Benford has been a key player for the Bills and has not missed a game this season. He is ranked as the fifth-highest cornerback in the league according to PFF. His current status for Sunday’s game is still questionable.

Interestingly, the Bills were without Benford for their Divisional Round game against the Chiefs last year as well, when the Bills lost 27-24. Benford’s absence again this year would be a huge blow. Without him, it will be Kaiir Elam or Ja’Marcus Ingram filling in opposite Rasul Douglas, who would both be much more easily exposed than Benford would.

The AFC title game between the Bills and Chiefs will be played this Sunday, January 26 at 6:30 p.m. ET at Arrowhead Stadium. You can follow along with our live text coverage, brought to you by our own Dane Arlauckas, right here on AS USA.
