Update:

The Las Vegas Raiders slipped to a 2-9 record after last weekend’s loss to the Cleveland Browns and the frustration for Geno Smith was clear to see.

The Raiders quarterback was caught on camera flipping off his own team’s fans as he trudged from the field. Smith had been booed by Raiders fans when he was introduced ahead of the game and was sacked five times by the Browns defensive line.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Smith acknowledged that he had made a mistake and apologized to supporters.

“I would like to apologize to the fans [and] Raider Nation,” Smith said. “I made a poor judgment out of frustration. And that’s not an excuse. I’ve got to be better than that and hold myself to a higher standard. In that moment, I didn’t. I’m sincerely apologetic and very sorry for doing that.

“I just want to make it known that those things will never happen from me again.”

However this is not the first time that Smith has been in hot water for gesticulating towards fans. In August he and teammate Maxx Crosby were seen making obscene gestures towards Seattle Seahawks fans.

This latest incident only compounds the frustrations surround Smith during his first season in Las Vegas. Now 35, the veteran quarterback signed a two-year deal worth $75 million back in April but has not provided the sort of value that the team was hoping for. His 13 interceptions is joint-most in the entire NFL this season.
