The NFL Week 3 schedule kicks off with a game between the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers on Thursday, Sept. 21. The game promises to be exciting, especially after the final showdown the Giants had in their last game. Despite winning against the Arizona Cardinals, the team lost their star running back, Saquon Barkley, to an injury scare. Now, a short week before the game, the Giants are gearing up to face the 49ers at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

New York Giants

The Giants won against Arizona recently, but they have not been able to cover the spread this season, as their record stands at 0-2. However, the team improved their rushing game, gaining 19 more yards on the ground than the week before, totaling 127 rushing yards. This is a positive sign, but the ground attack may be affected by the uncertain status of Saquon Barkley. Meanwhile, the quarterback, Daniel Jones, had a remarkable performance in passing, with over 300 passing yards and a completion rate of 70.3% in the game against Arizona.

On the defensive side, the Giants faced some challenges and allowed more yards and points compared to their previous game. While the Dallas defense in week one was partly responsible for their struggles, the Giants’ defense still gave up more yardage and points, excluding the defensive and special teams touchdowns from Dallas.

San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers have shown signs of improvement since the season’s first week. They’ve won their last two games but narrowly missed covering the spread in their most recent match. The 49ers’ offense was efficient, needing only 53 plays to gain 365 yards, and their rushing game was decisive, averaging 5.7 yards per carry.

The 49ers’ defense has been in the spotlight, especially with their impressive plus-three turnover margin. Nick Bosa led their pass rush, showing the potential that could create challenges for the Giants’ offense led by Daniel Jones.

Giants - 49ers odds and predictions

San Francisco’s home advantage and solid track record as home favorites make them a great choice to win against the Giants on Thursday night.

If we talk about the odds, since August, the lookahead line for the upcoming game between the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Giants was set at 49ers -6. However, as the Giants struggled through the first two weeks of the season and with the uncertainty of running back Saquon Barkley’s injury status, the line quickly rose to -10.5. FanDuel and Caesars offered this line on Monday morning, but it was soon bet down by Giants supporters, causing it to fall considerably. Currently, no sportsbook has set the bar at -11 or higher.

Among the top sportsbooks we have reviewed, FanDuel is the only one offering a total of 44.5 for the game, while all other sportsbooks have set it at 45. DraftKings offered a total of 45.5 on Sunday night, but it has since settled down to 45 throughout Monday, in line with most of the market. The total has garnered a good amount of early two-way betting, with a slight majority of 54% favoring the Under.
