Here’s what New York Jets’ Aaron Rodgers & Garrett Wilson had to say about their ‘fight’
Though fans were convinced there was a problem between two of the Jets stars, both men have since declared it’s nothing more than passions boiling over.
It would be fair to say that there is a lot of expectation ahead of the coming season for the New York Jets. That’s not to say it’s not usually the case, but after a campaign that saw their blockbuster signing and new starting quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, go down with a season-ending torn Achilles in the first minute of his debut in Week 1, the prospect of his return has got people talking. It’s with this in mind that one could say intensity in training camp has been at an all-time high ahead of the coming campaign. Indeed, that was witnessed earlier this week when the four-time MVP exchanged words with the team’s wide receiver Garrett Wilson.
Aaron Rodgers & Garrett Wilson downplay their spat
Having missed the entirety of last season with the previously mentioned Achilles injury, one could say that Aaron Rodgers is currently in the process of finding his feet with his ‘new’ team, the New York Jets. To that end, there has understandably been a learning curve involved and as we all know, those can be frustrating. That was plain to see on Tuesday when fans caught a video on social media of Rodgers and Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson having a heated exchange about a route. Now, it should be said that the conversation appeared to end on a good note, but unsurprisingly the rumor mill went into full gear.
So widespread were the varying takes on the situation that both Rodgers and Wilson eventually weighed in on the scenario laying to rest any suspicion that they might have a problem with each other. “He’s got to get on my page, but I have to get on his page, too, because he’s got a whole book that I need to understand fully,” Rodgers told ESPN. “So those are good conversations. They might appear to be much more heated than they are, but there’s usually a smile on our face afterward — at least one of us.”
For his part, Wilson who was the Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2022, had a similar view of the situation. “It’s truly enlightening for me every time we have problems like that, despite how it may look, just because I am an emotional, passionate guy,” Wilson said. “So, when we lose, I might look a certain way, but in reality, all those conversations, those things are helping me be better for Aaron because he can make your life real easy.” Given that Wilson followed up that 2022 campaign with a second 1,000 receiving yards one this past season, we imagine that street goes both ways. As for the Jets, they open their season against the San Francisco 49ers on September 9th.
