Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. It’s preseason, and the starters will see very little time on the field, if any this weekend. But anytime you see the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs squaring off flashes of the first Super Bowl should pop through your mind.

Super Bowl LVII preview

Thursday night’s game between the Chiefs and the Packers might give us flashbacks, but what it could give us even more of is a potential preview to this year’s Super Bowl matchup. These are two of the top teams in their respective conferences, and they have been for the last few years.

It’s true we won’t see Aaron Rodgers playing under center for Green Bay. He hasn’t played a preseason game since 2018. Jordan Love is certain to get a majority of the first half snaps, which should be a point of excitement for Cheeseheads everywhere considering Love has barley played a snap of football since being drafted two years ago. The Packers have split their first two preseason games, losing to San Francisco, and beating New Orleans last week.

Mahomes in midseason form

Last week, perhaps surprisingly, we saw a good bit of Patrick Mahomes as Andy Reid put his starter in for more than a quarter of action against the Washington Commanders. As you could imagine, Mahomes looked like the quarterback we have seen dominate the league for the last few years.

The Chiefs split their first two games of the preseaosn. They lost their opener to the Chicago Bears, but bounced back on the shoulders of Mahomes last game. Mahomes had two quick strikes to give the Chiefs a fusion they would hold for the rest of the game.
