How many times have the Eagles reached the NFC Championship?
The NFC’s top seed Philadelphia Eagles are heading to the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 2017, the year they won Super Bowl LII.
The Philadelphia Eagles had a heck of a season, finishing 13-4, clinching the NFC East, and earning the top seed in the NFC. They got the first-round bye week in the playoffs as a reward and then went on to defeat their NFC East foes New York Giants in a dominant 38-7 win. They will now move on to the NFC Championship game, where they will play the San Francisco 49ers at home.

The Philadelphia Eagles’ history in the NFC Title game
The Philadelphia Eagles have now reached the NFC Championship game eight times in franchise history and are 3-4 overall. Their most recent appearance in the NFC title game was in 2017, the same year they went on to win Super Bowl LII. Before that, it was a looong road to success for the Eagles, who hadn’t won an NFL Championship game since 1960. At that time, there was no Super Bowl or Lombardi Trophy. It wasn’t until the 1966 season when the NFL merged with the AFL that the first Super Bowl took place.
The Eagles watched from the sidelines for decades before finally getting a taste of post season victory in 1980, when they made it to the NFC Championship game and beat their nemesis Dallas cowboys 20-7. They then made their first-ever Super Bowl appearance but lost 27-10 to the then Oakland Raiders.
It took Philly a long time to get back to a winning season again after that. It was 2001 when they finally made it to another NFC conference game and they made it for the next four seasons in a row, but didn’t win it again until 2004. That year, they beat the Atlanta Falcons to advance to Super Bowl and play the New England Patriots. In a close game that was tied 14-14 in the 4th quarter, the Eagles were defeated 24-21 in Super Bowl XXXIX.
Four years later, in 2008, the Eagles made it to another NFC Championship game, where they lost to the Arizona Cardinals. They waited nine long years, but the wait was worth it. In 2017, the Eagles made it to the NFC title game and won, defeating the Minnesota Vikings by a landslide, 38-7. They went on to earn their first and only Super Bowl victory, beating the New England Patriots 41-33 in Super Bowl LII.
Now, the Eagles have their chance to win another Super Bowl. It starts with the NFC Championship game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, January 29. If Philly can pull off the win, they will face one of two tough and experienced teams - the Cincinnati Bengals or the Kansas City Chiefs - in Super Bowl LVII on February 12.
