With a week until the National Football League season 2022/23 begins in earnest, there are still plenty of financial deals being firmed up across the country. One that caught our eye on Thursday was the Tennessee Titans handing running back Derrick Henry a $2 million raise, while leaving the contract length unchanged.

Henry becomes highest paid RB

According to Ian Rapoport’s sources, Henry will now earn $14 million this season. The RB signed a four-year, $50 million contract with a $12 million signing bonus and $25.5 million in guaranteed money in July 2020. The 28-year old’s contract still expires in 2023.

In 2020, he was a first-team All-Pro selection after rushing for 2,027 yards and 17 touchdowns, and this reworking of his deal makes Henry the highest-paid running back in the NFL this season.

A broken foot in 2021 limited Henry to just eight games, though he still managed to gain 937 yards and score 10 rushing touchdowns. In 86 career games (55 starts), Henry has run for 6,797 yards and 65 touchdowns. He also has 846 receiving yards and three scores.
