He’s my guy, man,” said McDaniel. If that’s not enough to express Tua Tagovailoa’s worth to the Miami Dolphins, then nothing is.

The 25-year-old quarterback has been making the headlines recently for his outstanding performances in the NFL, with plenty of pundits and fans alike waiting for the moment that he puts pen to paper on a new deal with the franchise.

Tua ‘capable of leading Miami to a Super Bowl’

The Palm Beach Post journalist Joe Schad said that Tagovailoa “is a franchise quarterback capable of leading Miami to a Super Bowl championship” and that he “has done enough to earn his new contract”. They go on to add that Miami Dolphins “have no other choice but to pay him”.

However, fitness concerns have led Miami to be hesitant regarding a deal, with the quarterback coming into the NFL off the back of a significant hip injury. As well as that, he has sustained at least two concussions while in the league. Despite doubts from some sides, the Miami Dolphins took a chance on him - so far, it’s paying off.

How much could Tagovailoa earn if he signs an extension with the Dolphins?

According to Spotrack, in 2023, the Hawaiian quarterback (who, over 16 games this season, has a pass completion rating of 69.6%, as well as 28 touchdowns and 12 picks), signed a four-year contract worth $30,275,438 with the Miami Dolphins.

A new deal could see him earn significantly more, perhaps in the region of $50-55 million over a period of years. While there has been no confirmation of talks regarding a new contract, Tagovailoa is impressing across the United States and given that his current deal ends in 2024, it might be on Miami’s list of new year’s resolutions: sort out Tua’s deal.
