Update:

Another day in the NFL offseason, another self-inflicted drama that a team is “ready to move past”.

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart caused quite the stir when he decided to introduce president Donald Trump at a rally last month. He led the introduction with a “Go Big Blue” chant, associating the Giants with Trump whether they liked it or not.

It got weird after that, with Trump making several comments about Dart’s body and how well he’d play football against women, but the point is, it didn’t sit well with everyone, as you might imagine. There was backlash from fans, but also teammates, with Abdul Carter publicly calling him out on social media.

Apparently the team had a pow wow to work things out, and now it’s all good and they’re ready to move on. But Trump, as per usual, inserted himself into the mix again, screaming into the internet to praise Dart and bash anyone who disagrees. Like I said, just another day.

Trump defends Jaxson Dart as Giants attempt to move past distraction

Oh, what’s that? You’re ready to move on. Okay, sure. But before you do, let me just...

In a post shared on Truth Social, Trump publicly backed Dart, dismissing critics and praising the young quarterback’s rising profile. Obviously, this kept the drama alive just a little longer.

“Thank you Jaxson! I know you’re taking some heat from the Radical Left Lunatics who are jealous of you, me, and everyone who surrounds us but, I also know that your Jersey also went to Number One, and you’re making Millions of Dollars so, YOU ARE A WINNER — THEY ARE ALL LOSERS. I’ll see you in the White House!”

Dart has made it clear he doesn’t regret the decision that started it all. Speaking publicly about the moment, Dart framed the rally appearance as something bigger than politics, emphasizing what he viewed as respect for the office rather than an endorsement meant to divide.

“This was a unique opportunity,” Dart said. “You know, being asked and given the opportunity to introduce the President of the United States, my thinking was pretty simple. And the fact of, you know, I’ve always loved this country.”

Dart also pointed to personal background as part of his reasoning, noting family ties to the U.S. military and the values that shaped his perspective.

“The president position has always been a position that I have always respected, regardless of political affiliation, regardless of political party,” he said. “My intentions were just that.”

Although the media has continued to question those intentions, it appears Dart’s teammates were satisfied with the discussion they had to clear the air.

“I can honestly say that I love every single one of my brothers, my teammates on this team regardless of politics, regardless of religious beliefs, regardless of anything that may be different between us,” Dart said. “Like, I love them and they know exactly what kind of person that I am.”

Dart on the field

Okay, let’s give the man what he wants and talk about football here. Dart is now entering a pretty crucial stage of his developing career. After an impressive rookie season, expectations are rising for the young quarterback to take another step forward in 2026.

One of the key areas of emphasis for Dart this offseason has been durability. His playmaking ability was evident early on, but it came with a cost, as he absorbed significant hits and dealt with injuries. The coaching staff is reportedly working to refine his decision-making outside the pocket, encouraging him to protect himself while maintaining his dynamic style.

Another challenge for Dart is the possibility of a second-year regression. Defenses now have a full season of film to study, and expectations are significantly higher.

The Giants, however, believe they have the supporting cast to help him succeed. With improvements to the offensive roster and a coaching staff focused on development, there is optimism that Dart can continue trending upward.

If the Giants can indeed move past the noise and refocus on football, this little episode may ultimately be remembered as a brief detour. But if it lingers, it could become an early test of leadership, for both Dart and the team as a whole.
