Giants QB Jaxson Dart introduces Trump, becomes part of anti-trans speech
The New York Giants quarterback has come out as a MAGA/Trump supporter and then found himself part of a controversial, anti-trans moment onstage.

The NFL spent years telling players to “just stick to football”, so the reaction to Jaxson Dart stepping onto a political stage this week has been… telling.
The young New York Giants quarterback, who is supposed to be the future of the franchise, made a very public pivot into politics Friday night when he appeared at a rally for Donald Trump, introducing the president with glowing praise.
“What an honor, what a privilege it is to be here,” Dart told the crowd, before shaking Trump’s hand onstage. But it didn’t end there.

From franchise QB to political prop
Dart isn’t just another athlete with an opinion. He’s a 2025 first-round pick, coming off a statistically impressive rookie season, and very much positioned as the face of the Giants moving forward.
This wasn’t a vague social media post or a generic “go vote” message. This was a full-fledged campaign rally, tied directly to Trump and Rep. Mike Lawler, complete with chants, stage time, and political messaging, including rhetoric about transgender athletes that Dart stood next to, whether he engaged with it or not.
“I’m looking at Jaxson. I’d like to know, is there any woman in the audience that thinks they could tackle that guy?” Trump asked. “Because I’d like to meet you, I’d like to shake your hand.”
He then turned toward the Giants quarterback directly.
“Jaxson, you think you could play against women okay? You think you’d have any problem? I don’t think so,” Trump said, before quickly adding: “Don’t get involved, Jaxson. Don’t answer that question.”
Trump went on to comment on Dart’s body in a way that felt very much like a spectacle (nothing new for Trump there).
“I’m looking at the legs there. He’s this beautiful guy. He’s got legs like tree trunks,” Trump said. “This is not a good thing for women. This would not be good.”
Dart didn’t respond. But he didn’t leave, either.
It didn’t take long for critics to point out the obvious comparison to Colin Kaepernick. Less than a decade ago, Kaepernick effectively saw his NFL career derailed after kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice. The backlash was immediate, loud, and often framed around the idea that athletes shouldn’t be injecting politics into sports. And yet, Dart’s introduction of Trump isn’t receiving the same sort of backlash, at least not from the side shouting “shut up and play football” before, of course.
To be fair, Dart hasn’t been completely silent on political or cultural issues. He previously posted about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, condemning political violence and calling the situation “disgusting and sad.” That message though, at the time, was in line with reactions across the political spectrum. But this is different. Showing up at a rally, and doing so enthusiastically, is a far more explicit alignment. It moves Dart from “athlete with opinions” into something closer to a political figure, whether that’s his intention or not.
The bigger question the NFL never fully answered
The league has spent years navigating the intersection of sports, politics, and public identity, often inconsistently. It embraced messaging like “End Racism” in stadiums, while also struggling with how to respond when players took individual stands.
Dart’s appearance throws that tension right back into the spotlight. Because if the rule is no longer “stick to sports”, then fine, but that standard has to apply across the board.
None of this means Dart can’t support whoever he wants. He absolutely can. But stepping onto that stage ensures that this won’t just be about football anymore. And it’s a bold move for a player who has yet to fully establish himself in the league, especially considering Trump’s plummeting approval ratings. But hey, go Big Blue?
