Jerry Jones: Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy’s job not dependent on win against Buccaneers
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones dismissed rumors that if the team lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Mike McCarthy would be fired as head coach.
The Dallas Cowboys will kick off their playoff journey in the 2022 NFL season when they visit Raymond James Stadium to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Super Wild Card Round game has yet to start and already there are rumors that the job of head coach Mike McCarthy could be in jeopardy. However, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said in his weekly program 103.5 The Fan, that his coach’s job is not on the line.
“No. I don’t even want to start. No. I don’t need to go into details, but I have to evaluate Mike McCarthy with more than this playoff game,” Jones said.
The Cowboys are 30-20 in the regular season under McCarthy and 0-1 in the playoffs. What puts the former Green Bay Packers coach in good stead is that he has guided the Cowboys to postseason berths in back-to-back years, something they haven't achieved since 2006-07.

Loss against Tampa Bay
The Cowboys’ 2022 season began with a loss at Tampa Bay and an injury to Dak Prescott. However, Jones believes his team has the tools to turn around and beat the NFC South champions.
“I have complete confidence in Mike and our offensive line coaches, our coordinator. I have all the faith in the world that we can make the necessary adjustments for this week. I see us playing better,” said the Cowboys owner.
The matchup will be complicated because Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady has won all seven games in which he has played against the Dallas Cowboys.
