Kansas City Chiefs get DeAndre Hopkins in trade with Tennessee Titans
The Kansas City Chiefs are still undefeated even though a couple of their biggest offensive stars have been sidelined with injury
The Kansas City Chiefs are the last undefeated team remaining in the NFL after Week 7, but it hasn’t come easy for a team that has been hit by the injury bug. They were forced into the trade market and made a big splash by bringing in WR DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans.
Chiefs get deeper
Injuries have been a problem for the Chiefs this season as they look for what would be a historic three-peat. They lost Isaiah Pacheco in their Week 2 win over the Cincinnati, and then second year WR Rashee Rice suffered a season ending knee injury when Patrick Mahomes collided with him trying to chase down an interception he threw.
The Chiefs might have won the Super Bowl last year, but they were coming off one of the roughest offensive seasons we have seen in the Patrick Mahomes era. Since his rookie year, Mahomes and Rice had an instant connection and he was primed to be the top target in Arrowhead this season, but disaster struck in their game against the Chargers and that left a big hole in Andy Reid’s offense.
The offense was holding up in the games since the injury, but the Chiefs we’re going to need some depth at the receiver position. They went out and made a huge mid season move, trading a conditional fourth-round pick to the Tennessee Titans for WR DeAndre Hopkins.
Hopkins hop on for three-peat chase
DeAndre Hopkins was once considered as one of the top pass catchers in the game. He has been in the league for over a decade and has had seven 1,000 yard seasons, including last year on a Titans team that could barley move the ball.
Hopkins suffered a torn MCL this offseason, but was able to recover in time for the Titans’ Week 1 game against the Chicago Bears. He had just just 15 catches for 173 yards and a TD in Tennessee, but those numbers are more a product of the Titans’ offensive struggles than anything else.
Hopkins becomes the third big name receiver to be traded in a midseason deal after Davante Adams went from the Las Vegas Raiders to the New York Jets and Amari Cooper was traded from the Cleveland Browns to Buffalo Bills.
