Kansas City Chiefs’ Justyn Ross’s misdemeanor charges upgraded to felony. What happens now?
Just a few weeks ago the Chiefs player was disciplined by the NFL but that matters little now that the criminal charges he faces have been upgraded.
What appears to have been a domestic dispute gone bad has landed the Chiefs player in trouble. Truth be told, he could well be facing a whole lot more should the legal process that he’s now facing fail to go in his favor.
Chiefs’ Justyn Ross sees criminal charges upgraded
According to reports this week, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Justyn Ross is no longer facing simply a misdemeanor domestic battery and property damage charge. Indeed, after being upgraded on Tuesday by prosecutors in the Johnson County Courts system, it’s understood that Ross is now facing a felony criminal damage charge exceeding $1,000 but less than $25,000. The 23-year-old wide receiver who was of course signed as an undrafted free agent out of Clemson last year has a court date set for December 4th, 2023.
If you caught our previous report, you will know that Ross was placed on the NFL Commissioner’s Exempt List back on October 27th and has remained there ever since. To that end, the second-year pass catcher was barred from attending practice as well as games and as such has now missed games against the Denver Broncos and the Miami Dolphins, the latter of which was played in Frankfurt, Germany this past week.
What do we know about Justyn Ross’ case?
Though details continue to emerge, what we can say is that Ross’ case is related to a disturbance that occurred between him and his now former girlfriend on October 23rd at an apartment complex in Shawnee, Kansas. According to a probable cause affidavit that was filed with the courts, Ross told police that he discovered that his girlfriend was cheating on him and as such, kicked her out of their apartment. Where the woman in question is concerned, reports indicate that she told police that Ross became angry after seeing something on her phone. Further to that, she also alleged that Ross threw her on the floor before throwing a number of things at her including a laptop, a cell phone, and jewelry. There were also scratch marks on her Mercedez-Benz. It’s worth noting that Ross appeared in court via video back on October 24th. At the time he pled no guilty to the misdemeanor charge of domestic battery with no priors and misdemeanor criminal damage for less than $1,000. For the moment we can only watch and wait as to what happens next.
