Kay Adams sends clear message to 49ers fans about Brock Purdy’s contract demands: “You’ve got to show faith in your player”
The 49ers are considering putting quarterback Brock Purdy’s salary up into the $50 million range. Some fans aren’t keen but Adams thinks it’s a steal.

Brock Purdy has made a palty $2.5 million from his NFL career so far, despite having played three seasons and being the 49ers first choice quarterback. That’s what happens when you’re Mr Irrelevant - the final pick of the 2022 Draft.
While he’s earned the trust of 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, exceeded all expectations and led his team to the Super Bowl in 2023, he’s still on his rookie contract - a four-year deal worth $3.7 million.
But that is all set to change with Purdy up for a contract extension - and the debate is getting heated over what his new salary should be.
He’s apparently been pushing for a Dak Prescott level $55 to $60 million a year, but the 49ers were looking at something more like $40 million. A number Purdy’s camp pointedly ignored.
It looks like the numbers are settling at around the $48 to $50 million mark, an amount that some 49ers fans, and other critics, feel is overpaying.
Kay Adams thinks a big deal is a fair deal for Purdy
But that’s not the view of NFL pundit Kay Adams, who has a number of arguments as to why that amount is a fair deal for Purdy.

According to Adams, 49ers fans should be “thrilled and quiet” if they manage to lock in Purdy at those kind of numbers. Because even if they end up paying him $50 million - the top end of what’s being discussed - that puts “Brock outside the top 10 of the quarterbacks, in between guys like Kyler Murray and Sean Watson”.
She also points out that that would be 16% of the team’s salary cap, so the question might be whether he is worth 16% of their success, but “that is the market right now,” says Adams.
49ers should put faith in Brock Purdy
Adams also notes that it is important for teams to show belief in their players and “sometimes the way you show that and show value is with a contract.”
If the 49ers do step up and offer Purdy $50 million a year he’ll become the 11th highest-paid quarterback in the league, behind Super Bowl champion Jalen Hurts, on $51 million.
