Las Vegas chief Tom Brady wanted to Raid the Patriots
The Patriots’ Ashton Grant was offered the opportunity to take over the offensive reins in Las Vegas, but has opted to remain in Foxborough.
No secret to anyone: right now, the person truly steering the Raiders and making the key decisions is Tom Brady. The former NFL quarterback - now a minority owner of the Las Vegas franchise - has taken on a central role thanks to his unparalleled understanding of the game. His long‑term project is already taking shape for next season, and with Fernando Mendoza, the reigning NCAA champion, positioned as the cornerstone of the offensive scheme, Brady appears determined to give the franchise a new direction.
In that same vein, surrounding himself with forward‑thinking minds and high‑ceiling coaches seems to be the guiding principle. Klint Kubiak (38) was announced as the Raiders’ new head coach after winning the Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks as their offensive coordinator. And with his arrival, the team had hoped to pair him with a leading voice on offense: Ashton Grant. Unfortunately for Las Vegas, the answer was a resounding no.
Grant rejects the Raiders
According to NFL insider Adam Schefter: “Patriots QB coach Ashton Grant has decided to remain in New England rather than discuss the vacant offensive coordinator job with the Las Vegas Raiders. Grant now officially will be staying in New England to continue helping with the development of Drake Maye.”
Brady was meticulous in targeting someone capable of handling the offense and, above all, a rookie quarterback with massive upside, like Mendoza.
Grant’s response on the matter was clear. Not even a promotion - and the higher salary that would have come with it - was enough to outweigh the loyalty he feels toward Mike Vrabel, the coach who brought him to Foxborough. The young project underway in New England is trending upward, and it appears Grant wants to solidify himself there before considering his next move up the organizational ladder.
