Patrick Mahomes is the big attraction this weekend in Frankfurt. On Sunday, his Kansas City Chiefs will face the Miami Dolphins in the first of the two games that NFL teams will play this year on German soil. The two-time Super Bowl winner will play abroad for the second time in his career (he already did so in Mexico against the Chargers in 2019), although tomorrow will be his first time in Europe, a continent in which American football is rapidly growing in popularity.

New event in 2028

In his appearance before the media prior to the match against the Dolphins, Mahomes spoke about the possibility of representing the United States in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, an event in which flag football ( type of American football that is played without contact) will enter the events program. “I definitely want to,” said the big star of the league, joining others like Tyreek Hill and Micah Parsons, who have already revealed that they want to sign up for the Games.

However, Mahomes acknowledged that it might be more difficult for him that he imagines, as he added with irony. “I’ve seen some of those guys play the flag football and they are a little faster than I am... I know there aren’t linemen blocking for you. I’ll be 31, 32 years old, so if I can still move around, I’m going to try to get out there and throw the football around in LA,” the two-time MVP explained. “Just don’t tell coach [Andy] Reid or [GM Brett] Veach or anybody!”

The Chiefs star admitted that he has been “very excited” from the moment he found out that he would be playing in Germany. The Week 9 game in Frankfurt, against a powerful Dolphins, will be a great challenge for the Chiefs, who are 6-2 in the regular season, although their receivers are having big problems - none of them feature among the top 40 in the stats. “The only thing you can do is keep working,” concluded Mahomes, who will make his European debut on Sunday.
