Estados Unidos Update:

The Atlanta Falcons’ recent history just took an unexpected turn with the return of franchise legend Matt Ryan — in a brand new role. The former quarterback, who retired from playing in 2024, is the team’s new president of football operations.

Team owner Arthur Blank made the announcement Saturday morning, handing Ryan the keys to the football side of the organization after a season that offered few bright spots for the NFC South franchise.

Ryan, 40, is leaving his role as an analyst at CBS Sports to step into one of the most influential positions inside the Falcons’ front office. His first major task: overseeing the search for a new general manager and head coach, two foundational hires in an ambitious rebuild aimed at ending years of frustration in Atlanta.

Arthur gave me the chance of a lifetime almost 20 years ago, and he’s done it again today. While I appreciate the time I had with the Colts and with CBS, I’ve always been a Falcon. It feels great to be home. I could not be more excited, grateful, or humbled by this new opportunity,” Ryan said in a statement. “My commitment to the success of this franchise has not changed. I’m beyond ready to help write a new chapter of excellence.”

Franchise at a crossroads

The Falcons’ decision to bring back their former quarterback comes at a pivotal moment. After finishing the 2025 season 8–9 and missing the playoffs for the eighth straight year — their last appearance came in 2017 — Atlanta parted ways with head coach Raheem Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot. The moves signaled the beginning of a sweeping overhaul of the team’s football and administrative structure.

Ryan’s legacy is central to the Falcons’ story. Over 14 seasons in Atlanta, he led the team to five playoff appearances, a Super Bowl berth, and left as the franchise’s all‑time leader in passing yards. His name is etched into the fabric of the city — and now, his influence shifts from the huddle to the boardroom as he takes on the challenge of steering the organization back toward relevance.

A new challenge for a familiar face

Ryan’s task won’t be easy. He must blend his deep understanding of the game with the complexities of running a football operation that extends far beyond the field. Falcons fans are watching closely as the man who once symbolized hope under center becomes a central figure in the franchise’s attempt to reclaim the spotlight that has eluded them in recent years.
