Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has been crowned NFL Most Valuable Player for the first time in his long career. The Rams fell just short of another Super Bowl appearance but Stafford wins the annual award.

At the age of 37, having just finished his 17th season in the league, Stafford is finally crowned MVP. Despite his obvious talent Stafford has had to persevere with his career, waiting until 2021 to win a Super Bowl. Now he just the elite list of NFL MVP winners.

Also in contention for this year’s MVP award were Josh Allen (Buffalo Bills), Trevor Lawrence (Jacksonville Jaguars), Drake Maye (New England Patriots) and Christian McCaffrey (San Francisco 49ers).

Who has won NFL MVP the most times?

In the history of the AP Most Valuable Player award, Peyton Manning stands ahead of the rest with five MVP awards. Manning won the award with the Indianapolis Colts in 2003, 2004, 2008 and 2009, and with the Denver Broncos in 2013. Peyton Manning was one of the most famous victims of the ‘Super Bowl curse’, which relates to players being crowned MVP and going on to lose at the Super Bowl, losing as MVP in both 2009 and 2013.

Just behind him in the standings is Aaron Rodgers, who was a four-time MVP with the Green Bay Packers (2011, 2014, 2020, 2021). Behind Rodgers there are three players with three MVP awards: Jim Brown, Johnny Unitas, Brett Favre and Tom Brady.
