The relationship between quarterback Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns has been damaged by the NFL franchise’s pursuit and recruitment of Deshaun Watson.

Now, while there is uncertainty over Watson’s role as starting QB due to a potential NFL ban, Mayfield says he wants to move on from Cleveland and that he’s grateful for the experience of playing for the team.

“The mutual decision on both sides is to move on”

Speaking at his youth football camp in Norman, Oklahoma, the 2018 No. 1 Draft pick told that there is no going back when asked if his relationship with the Browns could be repaired.

I think it’s been pretty obvious the mutual decision on both sides is to move on. I’m thankful for my four years in Cleveland,” Mayfield said. “There was a lot of ups and downs, and a ton of learning experiences that I’ll forever keep with me. I have teammates and friends and relationships that I’ll have for a lifetime.”

During his career with the Browns, the Oklahoma State product threw for 14,125 yards, 92 touchdowns and 56 interceptions in 60 games, completing 61.6% of the passes he attempted.

Mayfield also spoke of his frustration at not being able to agree a trade before summer camp. He first asked the Browns for a move in mid-March, but remains on the franchise’s roster.

“I got frustrated with [a trade] not happening before minicamp and all those things,” he said. “But that’s the stuff that’s out of my control.”

Seahawks, Panthers interested in Mayfield

The teams that have shown an interest in the 27-year-old are the Seattle Seahawks and the Carolina Panthers. In Seattle, he would battle Drew Lock and Geno Smith for the starting QB spot, while in Carolina he would compete with Sam Darnold.
