“My actions don’t meet my standard”: Mike Vrabel addresses media ahead of NFL Draft
Patriots coach Mike Vrabel addressed the media once again just before the start of the 2026 NFL Draft following cheating speculation with Dianna Russini.

Just minutes before the 2026 NFL Draft began, Mike Vrabel stepped in front of reporters again and delivered his most direct and emotional statement yet.
Amid ongoing scrutiny surrounding his alleged relationship with Dianna Russini, Vrabel shifted further away from his initial dismissive stance and toward accountability, offering a public apology that centered on his family and team.
Vrabel holds himself accountable after Russini situation
In a statement that marked a clear turning point, Vrabel said:
“I understand that there are questions, but I take accountability for my actions and the actions that caused a distraction to the people that I care most about, my family, this football team, the organization and our fans."
“My previous actions don’t meet the standard that I hold myself to,” he said.

“What I believe is best for the two most important things in my life, my family and this football team, is for us to take the necessary steps to work together and to give them what I told them I’d give them, which the best version of me.”
And in perhaps the most personal moment of the statement, Vrabel added: “My priorities are my family and this football team, and in that order… My family needs me this weekend and that’s where I’ll be.”
Vrabel’s latest comments represent a significant evolution in how he has addressed the situation. Earlier in the controversy, he dismissed reports as “laughable”. In the days since, that tone has softened considerably. He acknowledged having “difficult conversations” with family and members of the organization.
Late last night, he announced he would step away on Day 3 of the draft to seek counseling, and now, he has issued a direct apology tied to his own actions and standards
While Vrabel still has not confirmed or denied specific allegations, the language has clearly moved toward personal accountability rather than dismissal.
The situation has continued to evolve rapidly. Recent reports have described previously surfaced photos of Vrabel and Russini together in social settings dating back several years, fueling further public interest in the story. Around the same time as Vrabel’s latest statement, Russini’s X account was no longer accessible. Neither development has been directly addressed by Vrabel in his public remarks.
Patriots stand behind Vrabel
Despite the growing attention, the New England Patriots have publicly supported their head coach.
In a statement, the organization said: “The New England Patriots fully support Mike Vrabel’s decision to prioritize his family first, as well as his own well-being… We are confident in the leadership and communication Mike has established… and [the staff is] prepared to execute our draft as planned this weekend.”
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said on ESPN that Mike Vrabel’s situation is not a personal conduct policy violation and is currently being treated as a personal matter. https://t.co/Wn9esVzHsZ

The team is expected to proceed with its draft strategy as scheduled, even with Vrabel stepping away later in the process.
