Neither Jalen Carter nor Jalyx Hunt, the surprising reason why Milton Williams received a $14,069 fine
Carter escaped punishment for a severe hit on Patrick Mahomes during the Super Bowl, but Williams hasn’t been so fortunate.

Super Bowl LIX didn’t go to according to plan for Patrick Mahomes, it’s fair to say. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback had been expected to lead his team to a fourth NFL championship and a third in a row in New Orleans, only to have one of the worst nights of his career as the Philadelphia Eagles secured a resounding victory.
Mahomes was hassled and harried into numerous mistakes by the Eagles, one of which occurred with just under 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. The play in question, however, was a controversial one.

However, Milton Williams was fined $14,069 for dunking over the crossbar after the ensuing strip-sack. pic.twitter.com/Z3o4bF54rx
Philly’s Jalen Carter wasn’t punished for a hit on Mahomes, who suffered a severe blow to the head during a strip sack. The defensive tackle had previously been handed a $17,445 fine for a similar strike on the Washington Commanders’ Tyler Biadasz in the NFC Championship Game, but got away with this one after not being flagged.
Why Milton Williams, not Jalen Carter, was fined for Mahomes hit
However, Milton Williams, who forced Mahomes to fumble and pounced on the loose ball, has been hit in the pocket as a result of his part in the play. The 25-year-old has been fined $14,069 for dunking the ball over the crossbar in celebration, which has been deemed “unsportsmanlike conduct”.
Williams was also seen performing another “exuberant” celebration after the strip sack, which may have had an impact on the severity of the fine.

Jalyx Hunt fined for “violent” gesture"
Additionally, outside linebacker Jalyx Hunt has received a sanction of $5,690 for another incident involving Mahomes. The outside linebacker dragged the Chiefs QB to the ground midway through the second quarter, following up with a bow-and-arrow gesture, which the league has deemed to be “violent”.
