Patrick Mahomes makes unwanted history for Super Bowl interceptions
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback had a nightmare first half against the Philadelphia Eagles, with his passes ending up in opponents' hands twice.

It was a tough Super Bowl for Patrick Mahomes. The star Kansas City Chiefs quarterback experienced one of the worst games of his career at the worst possible time. He had already thrown two interceptions before halftime, and the scoreboard at Caesars Superdome stood then at 0 – 24 in favor of the Philadelphia Eagles after two quarters. The first came courtesy of Cooper DeJean, who later converted it into a touchdown. The second was picked off by Zach Baun — a play that soon added further damage as a pass from Jalen Hurts to A.J. Brown extended the lead.
His first interception was returned for a touchdown in the playoffs (and in Super Bowls, that goes without saying), along with six completions on 14 attempts, 33 yards, and three sacks. And that’s not all. Despite his impressive Super Bowl record and three rings, he has now joined an illustrious list. With his two turnovers, the Texan is now the second quarterback with the most interceptions in Super Bowl history— in fact, he is tied with Craig Morton, with both registering seven.

The leader of that “blacklist” is another legendary quarterback: John Elway. The former offensive leader of the Denver Broncos, a two-time Super Bowl champion (1998 and 1999), threw eight interceptions in his five appearances in the big game. Below Mahomes and Morton are Jim Kelly, the celebrated quarterback of the 90s Buffalo Bills, Fran Tarkenton, and Tom Brady — all with six. Among them, Kelly and Tarkenton never lifted the Vince Lombardi trophy. Brady, Elway, and Mahomes are often ranked among the best quarterbacks of all time in the NFL. Even the best have off days.
