The New England Patriots held off the New York Jets in a slugfest in the slop from Metlife Stadium to get their first victory of the season. Matthew Judon had the game winning play late in the fourth quarter, sacking Zach Wilson in the end zone to complete the 15-10 win in the Meadowlands.

Pats keep streak alive

The Patriots came into the game 0-2 for the first time since 2001, knowing they needed a win against a team that they had beaten 14 straight times. The Jets returned home on the heels of a drubbing in Dallas.

It was wet. It was rainy. It was soggy and both teams struggled to deal with the conditions on the offensive end. The Jets went three and out on four of their first five drives. They would eventually get a field goal late in the first half, but trailed 10-3 after a field goal from Chad Rylan and a 58 yard touchdown pass from Mac Jones to  Pharaoh Brown.

Judon with game changing play

Both teams continued to struggle out of the halftime break and and no one put points on the board until there were under six minutes in the fourth quarter. Zach Wilson constructed an 87 yard TD drive to tighten the score to 13-10 with a Nick Bawden one yard TD run.

The Jets would get the ball back deep in their territory with a chance to tie the game, but Matthew Judon sacked Wilson for a safety to extend the lead to 15-10 right before the Two Minute Warning.

Wilson would end the game with 157 yards on 18/36 yards while Mac Jones went for 201 yards on 15/29 passing and a TD as the Pats extended their win streak over the Jets to 15.

This will go down as the play of the game on a day that was dominated by defense. The Pats locked down Wilson all day and when it mattered most, they got to him and Judon sacked him in the end zone to stretch the lead to 5 with under 2:30 to go.

WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM METLIFE!!!

Zach Wilson and the Jets will start the game with the ball from the 25.

It's been 14 games since the Jets have beaten the Pats. Their last win came in 2015. They have a chance to snap that streak today at Metlife.

Today's odds

The Patriots come into Metlife as a 2.5 point favorite, with the Over/Under at 35.5.

This is a tough one, but you have to think that the Pats finally get things going out of the gate and take it to the Jets. They know the only way the Jets have a chance to win is if they make silly mistakes that will keep New York in the game. I think they take care of the ball, and beat the Jets with ease.

The straw that broke the camels back

Ten months ago, the Patriots and the Jets played 60 minutes without an offensive touchdown. New England needed a late punt return with under a minute to go in the game to take the lead and sink the Jets. That would turn out to be a turning point for Zach Wilson and New York. Reporters asked Wilson if he felt like he left the defense down and he was very clear with his answer. The locker room turned on him, and soon enough he would lose his starting roll. Almost a year later, here he is, back as the starter, but needing to prove that he is capable of leading this team.

Pats worst start in two decades

For the first time since 2001, the New England Patriots have started the season 0-2 after losing to the Eagles and the Dolphins in Foxborough. In fairness to Bill Belichick’s team, they have played two of the best looking teams in the league in the first two weeks of the season, but this is concerning for a franchise that is more used to winning Super Bowls then missing the playoffs since the turn of the century. With Tom Brady everything came easy, but since then the Patriots have not had that consistency at the QB position.

Pats need a quick start

After Mac Jones led the Pats to the playoffs in his rookie year, New England fans thought they finally found a quarterback that could establish himself as the QB of the future. Last year, Jones nearly lost his job to a third stringer, and this year his numbers haven’t been bad, but it takes he and the offense too long to get going and they find themselves having to claw back into the game late in the second half. Today, look for Jones and the offense to come out firing from the beginning against a Jets defense that will be looking for some big plays.

Another Metlife Miracle in store?

This Jets team is still recovering from the Aaron Rodgers injury, and it will probably be that way for the rest of the season. They will tell you they have moved on, but how many times this season do you think fans or players will think to themselves, if we had Aaron, we might have made that play, or scored that touchdown, or won that game? The defense and special teams have proven they can keep the Jets in the game for a little while but if Zach Wilson can’t move Nathanial Hackett’s offense, they might have to bring in someone who can.

Pats last week

It was Monday night, under the lights against a team that the Patriots give problems to in primetime, but Mac Jones and the New England offense simply couldn’t hang with the Miami Dolphins, whose ground game was what made the difference in Foxborough last week. A late fourth quarter TD with less than 5:30 to play pulled the Pats to within a TD and they had a chance to tie the game after Miami missed a 55 yard field goal right before the Two Minute Warning. For the second straight week, the Pats failed to convert on a fourth down play, this time it was Gesicki who made a short catch and was stopped well short of the first down marker, but he pitched it to a lineman who almost moved the chains, but came up inches from extending the game.

Jets last week

It was their first full game without Aaron Rodgers, and it couldn’t have been a worse matchup for Robert Saleh’s teams in Week 2. After a miracle win over the Bills in the opener, they traveled south to Dallas to take on a Cowboys team that looks like one of the best in the league. New York hung tight with the Boys for most of the first half but Prescott hit Schoonmaker for a late second quarter TD. The Dallas D turned up the heat in the second half forcing a fumble and picking off Zach Wilson three times to ease to a 30-10 win.

We are live from Melife

Hello everyone and welcome to the Meadowlands where the Jets return home looking to get back into the win column after suffering a heavy defeat at the hands of the Cowboys. Today, they take on a team that they have struggled against for the last decade and they will be looking to end their streak of bad fortune with another home win. An 0-2 start was not how the Patriots planned to start the season, especially in a conference with the Dolphins and Jets, and time is already starting to run thin in New England, for the Patriots and perhaps for their coach.
