SF get the ball from the 12 yard line and Purdy goes deep to Kittle on the left side for a big gain of 26 to start the drive.

Rodgers was under pressure and threw it into the dirt after Bosa and company came crashing in and the Jets fail to get a first down for the third time in four drives.

Hall gets it back on the sweep and picks up two yards on the run to the right side.

Deebo has been heavily involved in the absence of McCaffery and he made amends for his holding call that took Mason's TD off the board with a TD run of his own. 

Mason gets the handoff to the left side and he picks up a first down inside the 5 yard line!

Samuel with the catch in the flat and he gets three yards on the catch and run.

Mason with a big hole on the right side and he sprints into the endzone, but a hold on Samuel downfield is going to bring that 17 yard TD run back!.

Purdy finds Jennings at the marker on a pass over the middle and he spins around a defender to move the chains with a 22 yard pick up.

Mason gets the pitch and finds a hole for an 18 yard pick up that will be taken off the board because of a holding call back at the line of scrimmage.

Mason on the carry to the left side and he hits the hole before getting taken down for a 6 yard gain.

Hall on the dive down the middle and he dives forwards for a six yard gain.

The Jets gets the ball back from the 30 yard line and Rodgers looks to Wilson on a deep ball down the left side and Wilson pulled up in his route.

Jets still lead 7-6 as their defense continues to hold strong. 

The Niners try a reverse to Samuel who was going to throw it but with pressure in his face, he tucks it and almost gets back to the line of scrimmage.

The Jets lead after a nice drive constructed by Rodgers. The Niners are driving down the field looking to get into the endzone for the first time this season. 

Mason gets the pitch to the left side and he jukes his way for a 5 yard gain.

Purdy with the roll out and he tucks it before tumbling to the ground for no gain. There was an illegal formation call on SF, but NY declined it.

Purdy lofts one down the right side for Aiyuk on the right side and he makes the catch for a first down and a 15 yard pick up. 

1st and 10 from the NY 33. 

Slant from Aiyuk and Gardner was there to bat that out of the hands of the WR.

Samuel out of the backfield and he bounces off a tackle and lowers his head for a 5 yard gain.

Mason finds a hole up the middle and busts one for the first time today. He goes for 13 yards and a first down, the first of the night for SF.

SF take over from the 30 and Mason gets four yards on the left side.

After a three and out and fumble to start the game, the Jets build a drive thanks to Aaron Rodgers and Breece Hall. Rodgers was 6/7 on the drive, most of those completions to Garrett Wilson and Hall punched it in from three yards out. 

Wilson in the flat and he makes one move around a defender before being taken down at the 3.

Wilson on the underneath route and Rodgers finds him over the middle for a first down and a 7 yard pick up.

Rodgers fires a bullet over the middle and finds Wilson in stride for a pick up of 14 yards and a first down.

Hall up the middle and he is met at the line of scrimmage by Collins.

Rodgers over the middle for Hall and he is dragged down after a gain of 3.

Tough catch reeled in for Wilson on the back shoulder throw. The coverage was great, but the catch was better. Pick up of 16 on Rodgers' first completion of the season.

Pitch to Hall on the left side and he is dropped by Bosa and Wagner after a pick up of 2.

NY start their third drive from the 30 and Hall is wrapped up for no gain on the first down run.

Moody comes on to the field and drills the 46 yard field goal for the first points of the game. The Niners turn the fumble into points, but get held without a first down again. 

SF lead 3-0 four minutes into this game. 

Purdy looking back to Samuel but this time they weren't on the same page as the WR pulled up 20 yards in front of where that ball landed.

Purdy on the pass over the middle for Samuel and Williams was there to bat that ball down.

Samuel gets the handoff out of the backfield takes it to the right side for a gain of 3.

NY take over from the 30 and Rodgers pitched it to Hall who make the catch and turned up field but lost the ball and it's recovered by the 49ers!

Purdy lobs it up for Samuel off his back foot and that deep pass to the left side was maybe a yard over thrown. 

4th and 1 as both teams go three and out to start the game. 

Out route from Kittle and Purdy put it on him for a gain of 7 yards.

Here comes Purdy and the Niners starting in from the 8 yard line. 

Mason takes it up the middle on his first carry of the night and he picks up 2 yards.

Rodgers first pass falls out of the hands of Lazard who slipped on the stop route and complicated the catch.

Toss to the right side this time for Hall, and he gets another three yards to bring up 3rd and medium.

NY take over from the 30 and on the first play of the night, Rogers tosses it to Hall on the left side and he is pushed out of bounds after a gain of three.

WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM SAN FRANCISCO!!!

The Niners kickoff to start the game, and it'll be Aaron Rodgers and the Jets taking the field first from the Bay. 

Tonight's odds 

The Niners come into tonight a 3.5 point favorite with the Over/Under set at 43.5. 

With no Christian McCaffery things are going to get a little more difficult against the stingy NY defense. With Aaron Rodgers itching to get back on the field, I think the Jets take it to the Niners and beat them straight up in the Bay. 

Jets win 23-20. 

Aiyuk and Niners settle differences

It was one of the dramas of the offseason, and it didn’t really stay between closed doors. Brandon Aiyuk was the leading receiver for the Niners last year, and favorite target for Brock Purdy, and the WR used that leverage to his advantage. He wanted a new deal, and let everyone know about it on social media. Things looked to have reached a breaking point with news coming out of San Fran that Aiyuk was looking for a trade, but eventually the Niners and their star receiver came to an agreement and signed a contract extension that is going to keep this team together for the near future. Trent Williams also held out, and waited for a new contract knowing that the Niners can’t put Brock Purdy in jeopardy so the big man got a big pay day as the San Fran front office had to shell out some major cash in the days leading up to Week 1. How fresh and game ready they will be after holding out is to be determined tonight against the Jets. 

Star watch: Niners

Who do we put in the Niners star watch section? They have one of the deepest, most talented group of offensive players in the league with weapons at every position. Deebo Samuel steps into the spotlight now that Christian McCaffery is out injured tonight. Samuel can line up in the backfield although he does that less than he used to. He is still a spark plug on the WR spot, and if he gets a little space in the secondary he will take it to the house. He had over a 1,000 yards total yards last year and scored 12 TDs last year. Let’s look for the Niners to open up the playbook and get Samuel involved from the start. 

Star watch: Jets

We have been waiting too long to put Aaron Rodgers in our star watch portion of the preview. One of the top QBs of this generation makes his "debut" after heading to the Big City after a Hall of Fame career in Green Bay. He’s a Super Bowl winner, a four time MVP of the NFL but at 40 years old he still wants that second ring, and the Jets are desperate to bring the Lombardi Trophy back to the New York for the first time since Super Bowl III. While the hype is real, and the excitement is palpable in NYC, the reality is Rodgers is a 40 year old QB coming off of achilles injury, and if we are being fair the last full season we saw from him was one of the worst seasons of his career. That was back in Green Bay where he and his young receivers were never really on the same page, but he is in year two with a talented WR corp, and he is expected to look like the QB of old this season.

Is Christian McCaffrey going to play against the Jets on Monday Night Football? Injury status

The Niners starting running back and one of the best dual threat players in the game is a late scratch as he continues to nurse a calf and achilles injury that kept him out for most of preseason. Christian McCaffery is the work horse on this team full off super stars. He can do a little bit of everything. He can run it between the tackles, he can take it outside and get the edge on corner backs, he can pass protect and he can catch the ball. Last year he had over 2,000 total yard of offense and scored 21 touchdowns. Every time he touches the ball, he has a chance to go the distance. 

Last year: Jets

It was disaster from day one for the Jets last year who went into the season with high hopes of a Super Bowl run after luring one of the best quarterbacks of this generation to the Big Apple. After snapping his Achilles on the first drive of the season, the Jets spiraled down the AFC East standings. The defense did enough in the first half of the year to keep the dream of a miracle return late in the season, but as Robert Saleh’s team continued to lose there was less and less reason for Rodgers to make a return as their playoff chances dwindled. This will be Rodgers real debut season, and with a four time MVP QB under center, the Jets will be real contenders in the AFC East. 

Last year: Niners

The Niners were out and out favorite to return to the Super Bowl last year after falling just short in the NFC Championship to the Eagles in a game where Brock Purdy was sidelined in the first half. Purdy remained healthy all season as the Niners won their first five games all by huge margins. They would lose three in a row to induce a mid season crisis but they righted the ship and finished the season 12-5 with the one seed in the NFC. Once in the post season, they beat the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions by a total of six points to set up a rematch of Super Bowl LIV.

The Niners jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first half but a muffed punt at the end of the third quarter changed the game, and Mahomes hit Valdes-Scantling on the play after to give the Chiefs a 13-10 lead. Each team would go back and forth for the rest of the game, scoring on each drive, ending with a Chiefs field goal to tie the game with three seconds on the game clock. San Francisco took the lead in overtime, settled for a field goal and that’s all that Mahomes and the Chiefs needed to bury the Niners with a game winning TD pass to Mecole Hardman. 

We are live from the Bay

Hello everyone and welcome to Santa Clara where the San Francisco 49ers are hoping that their Super Bowl window is still open after coming so close for yet another season before falling to the Kansas City Chiefs. Brock Purdy and his stacked offense are one of the favorites to make it back to Super Bowl Sunday, but the NFC has a handful of teams that will be looking to keep them from getting back to the big game. The Jets on the other hand are coming off a scratch year in which Aaron Rodgers missed all but four snaps after tearing his achilles in the season opener. The 40 year old QB is healthy, and ready to make a run on a team that has plenty of fire power on offense, but relies heavily on the strength of it’s defense.

The first week of the NFL’s regular season comes to a close in the Bay Area as the defending NFC Champions and Super Bowl runners up host a team that has been waiting for this day for a long, long time. The San Francisco 49ers host the New York Jets on Monday Night Football as AS English will be with you all day providing live coverage, stats, highlights and analysis of tonight’s game from Levi Stadium.
