NFL All-Star charged with two counts of driving under the influence and one count of illegal possession of a firearm

The former running back was arrested on three felony counts, including driving under the influence.

Born in Leeds, Joe finished his Spanish degree in 2018 before becoming an English teacher to football (soccer) players and managers, as well as collaborating with various football media outlets in English and Spanish. He joined AS in 2022 and covers both the men’s and women’s game across Europe and beyond.
Update:

Former Minnesota Vikings standout Adrian Peterson found himself in legal trouble this past Sunday in Sugar Land, Texas, when police arrested him at around 10 a.m. local time. According to county records, the charges include driving while intoxicated (DWI) and unlawful possession of a weapon.

This latest arrest is not Peterson’s first brush with DUI-related charges. Earlier this year the Palestine, Texas native was arrested in Minnesota following a late-night driving incident after the Vikings’ draft-day festivities.

At that time he was reportedly clocked driving 83 mph in a 55-mph zone and subsequently recorded a .14 % blood-alcohol content, well beyond Minnesota’s .08 legal limit.

His legal history also includes a high-profile child-abuse case in Texas in 2014, in which he pleaded no contest (he used a switch to spank his then-4-year-old son and was subsequently banned from the NFL for a year); a 2022 arrest came aboard a flight bound for Houston on a domestic-violence allegation, though that did not result in felony charges.

Peterson has been involved in past acts of philanthropy, including a 2020 donation of $100,000 to assist senior citizens and students in the Houston region amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Peterson played over 15-seasons in his long and storied NFL career, and remains closely associated with former side the Vikings, where he made a name for himself as one of the league’s top running backs. He earned the NFL Most Valuable Player award in 2012 and set a single-game rushing record during his rookie season in 2007.
