NFL standings after week 4: Winners and losers in the AFC and NFC divisions

With a tumultuous week four in the NFL now done and dusted, there are only two teams standing who are unbeaten, and there still remains a side that are yet to taste victory. In such a short season, getting the wins on the board early on is key, and things can quickly spiral if the downward trajectory is not adjusted.

The stakes are high, even at this early stage, as we cross the ‘quarter’ point in the season (I know it’s not, but try and divide 17), fans are starting to get a feel of how things are going to look come the end of the campaign.

With that tension being bitten by our nashing teeth, let’s take a look at the NFL week 4 winners and losers:

NFL Week 4 winners

San Francisco 49ers

It was one of those weekends where things just went right. The Rams lost to the Bears and the Cardinals huffed and puffed against the Commanders while the Patriots were crushed by a rampant 49ers side who had plenty of key names misfiring. Now, all of a sudden, the worm has turned and the side from Levi’s Stadium could well be in the mix to get top spot in the division.

Speaking of the Commanders, they thumped the Cardinals 42-14 on Sunday, with Jayden Daniels the star. The young rookie was sublime in terms of his short passing game, and put up another sensational display while etching his name firmly into the conversation for Offensive Rookie of the Year. Daniels completed 86.7% of his passes in that game, making him the first quarterback in NFL history to complete at least 85% of his passes in two consecutive games.

The Chiefs. Again.

Sometimes, it’s just all about talent. And the Chiefs have a lot of it. The side are 4-0 in the division, which may not blow you off your rocking chair, but they have been behind by at least a touchdown in all four games, making them the third team in NFL history to start 4-0 despite trailing by at least seven points in all of their four games at the start of a season. And even so, they keep on going.

NFL Week 4 losers

Jacksonville Jaguars

I mean, it’s got to be the Jaguars. Still winless in any of their four games, they could not overcome the Texans this past weekend and bowed out of the tie 24-20. That $275 million contract for Trevor Lawrence feels very expensive as things stand, and even more so knowing that the Jaguars QB threw for just 169 yards while completing just 54.5% of his passes.

The Jets - what even?

When Descartes said ‘I think, therefore I am’, I’m not sure he knew just how confusing the Jets would make life feel. Imagine a team with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback that makes mistake after mistake, as though they’ve just realised that the ball for the game this weekend is actually a King Edward potato and not what they’ve been training with all week.

A 10-9 loss to the Denver Broncos was just the next cry to the skies in the long line of disappointments that are verging on angry losses. Eagles’ wings not flapping without key stars

Admittedly, being without star receivers DeVonta Smith (concussion) and A.J. Brown (hamstring) in their 33-16 loss to the Buccaneers is a huge pair of gaps to fill, but the Tampa Bay side racing into a 24-0 lead was bordering on shambolic. Here’s some context to the disappointment: the leading Eagles receiver from Sunday was Parris Campbell, who caught four passes for 17 yards. I think I’ll stop there.
