NFL honor Marshawn Kneeland with a moment of silence in Week 10

The league was left in shock after the death of Marshawn Kneeland, who took his own life at age 24 following a traffic incident. Now, the NFL has decided to honor the former player during all Week 10 games.

According to The Athletic, the league sent a memo to all 32 teams on Friday instructing them to observe a pregame moment of silence. Afterward, stadium public-address systems will broadcast a message encouraging fans to reach out if they are struggling emotionally.

“If you or someone you know is having a hard time or needs emotional support, call or text 988,” the message will say. “The Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to help.”

The Cowboys are on their bye week and will return to action in Week 11. For now, tributes will take place across the league, with Dallas planning its own recognition during next week’s Monday Night Football matchup against the Raiders.

Broncos and Raiders held a moment of silence on Thursday Night Football

Even before the league’s official directive, the Raiders and Broncos opened Week 10 with a tribute to Kneeland. Both teams held a moment of silence before kickoff at Denver’s Mile High Stadium to honor the late Cowboys player.
