During the Monday night game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Cleveland Browns experienced a major setback as their star running back, Nick Chubb, sustained a severe left knee injury. This unfortunate injury has left the Browns without their critical offensive player, crucial in their recent success. The loss of Chubb impacts the team’s current performance and raises concerns about the long-term prospects of the Browns’ offense.

On Monday night, the 27-year-old four-time Pro Bowler played for a franchise trying to establish itself as a yearly contender. Unfortunately, his sixth season in the NFL ended early on the second play of the second quarter. During a 5-yard run, Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick tackled the player low and caused a hit to his legs, which made his knee buckle underneath him.

After the tackle, a teammate helped him to his feet, but he shook his head while clutching his left knee. He then undid his chin strap and rolled onto his side, indicating he was in much pain.

This incident was not the first time Chubb had suffered a consequential knee injury. In 2015, while in college at Georgia, he had injured the same knee, which was a dislocation with three torn ligaments. He missed the second half of his sophomore year after getting hurt against Tennessee but returned to top 1,000 yards rushing in 2016 and 2017.

He was a second-round pick by the Browns in 2018. Unfortunately, the same knee was injured again on Monday night, and the play where he was hurt was too difficult to watch, so ESPN declined to show replays of it.

After the injury, the player remained on the ground while teammates prayed nearby for several minutes. He eventually left the field on a cart and was taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure.

This injury is a significant loss for the team, as the player has been one of the constants for the franchise and a top contender in the league. Without a reliable running game, the Browns will have to rely even more heavily on their passing game, which could make them more predictable and vulnerable to opposing defenses.

Nick Chubb’s return to the field

During the post-game conference, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed the unfortunate news everyone had been dreading. Although the details were unclear, Chubb’s season has ended due to a severe knee injury and ligament damage. The people of Cleveland and all Browns fans anxiously await more information about the extent of Chubb’s injury until the comprehensive medical examination and scans are completed. However, based on the current situation, it is highly likely that he will not be able to play until the 2024 season.
