Update:

The fastest man in the world is finally set to race the fastest man in the NFL - and the trash-talking has already begun. Noah Lyles, the recent gold medal winner at the 100m sprint at the Paris Olympic Games, will finally race the quickest player in the NFL, Tyreek Hill.

Hill, 30, said back in August that he could beat Lyles - the man who ran 9.784 seconds in Paris - in a 50m race: “I would beat Noah Lyles. I wouldn’t beat him by a lot, but I would beat Noah Lyles.”

“This has been an ongoing thing for, quite some time now, and I mean, everybody’s seen the back and forth on social media. I’ve been very adamant to show people what real, true speed looks like,” Hill told PEOPLE.

Lyles hit back at the Dolphins star, holding up a sign that said ‘Tyreek could never’, after winning the 60m final at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix.

‘If I gotta go beat up on Tyreek, it’s gonna be done'

On the sign, Lyles said to PEOPLE that “it speaks for itself”, adding that “everybody says that they’re gonna be the world’s fastest, but when it comes down to it, you gotta be the winner every time, each and every time, and every time I show up to the biggest moments, I win.”

That’s why I’m the world’s fastest. I did at the Olympics. I do it at world championships. I do it wherever it’s needed to be done. And if I gotta go down and, you know, beat up on Tyreek to prove that I’m the world’s fastest, then it’s gonna be done.”

When will Tyreek Hill race against Noah Lyles?

While we don’t have a specific date, the pair revealed in a joint interview to PEOPLE that they will race at some point in the spring or summer, ahead of Lyles' participation in the USA outdoor track and field championships, which starts on July 31.

However, as much as Hill and Lyles are prepared to start up the rivalry before the race, there are a few rules in place: “I mean, as long as we ain’t putting people’s mamas in it, I don’t care,” Hill said. “We can go as far as far can be. We’re here for a good time.”
