Contrary to popular belief, Wembanyama is not the tallest player in the NBA.
While images of the gangly limbs of Victor Wembanyama regularly reach escape velocity of the NBA world and fly into the sphere of general social media, with the world reacting that he must surely be the tallest player in the league. But he’s not.
In fact, the tallest player in the NBA is a member of the Memphis Grizzlies. Zach Edey is their Canadian center, and has been with the side for only a year, making him a rookie.

The 22-year-old was the 9th overall pick in the first round, coming into the NBA from the Purdue Boilermakers after a simply sensational season. He averaged 25.2 points, 12.2 rebounds. 2.2 blocks and 2.0 assists while shooting 62.3 percent from the field and 71.1 percent from the free throw line.
Edey also became the only player in NCAA history to average at least 25.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 2.0 assists per game.
At 7 feet four inches (2.24 metres), he is now the NBA’s tallest player, ahead of Wemby by one whole inch. So far this season, Edey has thrown an average of 9.5 points per game, 7.6 rebounds and 0.9 assists.
